Need a complete 6/4 Drop kit...

Need a complete drop kit for 86 SWB 1/2T light duty. Where is the best place and how much? Looking for spindles, springs, flip kit and shocks. Thanks in advance.

Check Travis with Pro Performance and Summit Racing.
I have always like Belltech stuff for the 73-87 trucks.
Does your truck have the HD or Light Duty front rotors?

Grunion Fabrication is always a good source for McGaughy's suspension parts.

Keith - its a LD truck. Just trying to find a complete kit so I don't have to hunt parts down. Trying to keep it reasonable also, since it's just a daily driver.

Re: Need a complete 6/4 Drop kit...

I like this kit, Belltech is overpriced.

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/dj...-4-6/overview/

If you want to save some money there is cheaper ways to do it.

Find some decent spindles on ebay, most will be 2.5'' drop (Belltech is the only source for 3'' drop spindles that I have seen), and while you are installing the spindles just cut exactly one coil off the top of the stock spring.

This will net you right around 4.5'' in front give or take. Buy a flip kit separate for like $80. If you want a fancy C-notch that nobody will see then pay extra for it, but I just got a piece of 6'' pipe and cut it in half and cut the frame to match and welded her up.

I personally feel those kits are way way overpriced. I mean you are seriously paying for longer u bolts, and a piece of steel plate with some holes drilled. and there is also those saddle deals for the axle housing.

My truck rides great, I put some monroe gas magnum front shocks on because stock shocks will bottom out on big bumps.

this is basically how it will sit afterwards.

dont forget to trim the rain gutters if you're gonna rock the rallys

Re: Need a complete 6/4 Drop kit...

Thanks for the info guys. I think I might go with the Summit kit. What shocks (part #s) do you recommend? Also, will I have any problem with the driveshaft length after the flip kit?

Re: Need a complete 6/4 Drop kit...

I normally use Belltech shocks.
The flip kit will move the rearend slightly rearward, to center the wheels in the wheel opening of the bedsides, and retain the factory driveshaft length.

The LD spindle is usually higher priced, since they don't sell as many.
You could alway convert to HD rotors calipers, spindles and bearings.

I found this Kieith, http://www.summitracing.com/parts/bel-705sp

I think I'm going to order it, it seems like a really good price for a complete kit. thoughts? Any problem with the 3" dropped spindle and 1" spring?

Should be fine.
I've has 3" spindles and 2" springs.
I always use 15x7 rally wheels up front and trim the "gutters"off the lower a-arm for clearance.
Trim just enough to clear.

Re: Need a complete 6/4 Drop kit...

Does the DJM kit come with their crappy shocks?
I had a set on a lowered '99 silverado for about a month.
Big waste of money.
Worse shocks I've ever owned.

The DJM kit doesn't include any shocks. And while that doesn't make up the entire difference (I'm sure good shocks will be $200-250) , it will at least come as a complete kit.

My truck rides perfectly fine on regular shocks. Monroe whatevers.... cant remember if i even got a shorter shock. I did put a set of the yellow monroe gas magnums on front. The front rides nice and tight but far from too stiff.

With belltech your paying for the name. That kit is basically $450 extra Belltech shocks which i would bet money are made by another party with fancy colors and stickers on them.

I had a set of Belltech spindles and they were nice. And considering they are the only company ballsy enough to offer 3" drop then they will sell. But lets be honest.... on a DD you will be the only one who even knows or cares what spindles they are.

Re: Need a complete 6/4 Drop kit...

I have a 4/6 drop on my '87. Bought a McGaughy's flip kit off craigs for $70 brand new. Bought Belltech 3" drop spindles from Autoanything for under $300 (they always have discounts; I'm pretty sure they offer 15% off for new customers). Cut half a coil up front for an additional inch of drop. Front shocks are the stock ones. Bought new lowered Belltech shocks from thesuspensionsource for real cheap. They were in the scratch/dent section. All in all I believe I spent around $400.

Hope I don't get in trouble for saying the names of the sites I used.
