1960 235 to T5 tranny swap
So I have a few questions for the 235 to T5 transmission swap.
1. Do you need to have a clutch reservoir for the transmission? 2. What was the cheapest brake boosts upgrade for having a clutch reservoir if that's the case? Just wasn't able to find these answers anywhere online. Thanks. |

Are you converting to hyd clutch system just to run the T5?
Heres the easy way: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=644565

Ah so using the jeep input shaft after trimming the collar means everything stays exactly how it was then. And no I wasn't trying to convert, I just didn't know if I needed to use a hydraulic system for the T5 which I see no one has mentioned.

Re: 1960 235 to T5 tranny swap
The '60-'62 trucks originally had a hydraulic clutch, if you don't want a hydraulic clutch, you will have to fabricate up some sort of mechanical linkage or a cable operated clutch. It doesn't have as much to do with the transmission as it does the truck itself and the bellhousing you have. Your clutch fork is on the passenger side which makes it difficult to fabricate a mechanical linkage.

Re: 1960 235 to T5 tranny swap
So despite it being more expensive it's easier to put the modern hydraulic system in probably then trying to modify everything.

I'm not entirely sure I am grasping what you are trying to do. So I have to ask a few questions. 1. Does your truck currently have a hydraulic clutch? 2. Is the clutch fork on your current bell on the PS or the DS? A T5 will bolt up to a 60's Chevy truck bell as long as they both have the same bolt pattern - a Muncie pattern. Like Captain Fab said, the 60-62 truck bells used a hydraulic clutch system that has a fork on the PS. A T5 should bolt up to that just fine. I recently documented my T5 installation. I included virtually every step from the crank to the rear diff. Mine has a mechanical clutch linkage like those found in 1963 - 1970's trucks. Here's the LINK to my installation. I hope it helps. I'm interested in helping but I might need more info.

Re: 1960 235 to T5 tranny swap
The kit that I make and sell is for upgrading to power brakes. If you are going to stay with manual brakes, just keep your original combo master cylinder, or replace with the same if necessary. The original combo master will not work when converting to power brakes.
