Battery Disconnect Switch Location
I am going to install a battery disconnect switch on the truck. But would like some suggestions or photos of some other disconnect switches that anyone else has installed. I have an 83 C10.
I like the idea of this install http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s....php?p=3062894 but I don't really have access to it with my grill I have the same exact type of switch, actually bought it from the guy who started that thread at his Napa store here in Idaho. |

Re: Battery Disconnect Switch Location
May I ask to why you are installing this?
There're a lot of perfectly good reasons. Just wondering what yours might be? |

Re: Battery Disconnect Switch Location
I used one like this.
http://m.summitracing.com/parts/fla-fr1003-2 Thru the roll pan. Rear mounted battery though. But with a push/pull you could go any where wiwith it.

Re: Battery Disconnect Switch Location
To eliminate battery drain. I don't drive the truck much, in 2014 I maybe put 150 miles on it and I went through a new battery. I purchased a red top optima and don't want to drain it.

Re: Battery Disconnect Switch Location
I understand. I used a similar set-up on my old Suburban when I couldn't find the short that was draining my battery.
Once I located the short, I installed it in an odd location under my seat, in the hopes of foiling thieves. |

On place between the sill plate and side seat. Use the ground side Run it to switch then ground to frame right there. Be aware Working on Heavy equipment for decades I cant tell you how many cables had to hook to 1 post because the switch failed. I would put a trickle charger on it.

Re: Battery Disconnect Switch Location
A easy one to use Amazon.com: NOCO ID220S 6V-24V 125 Amp Battery... you unscrew the green knob and remove the cable,And when you want to drive it just stick it back on and screw the green knob back on.

Re: Battery Disconnect Switch Location
I put mine behind my rear place, under a flip up/down GM license plate bracket (one that stays up or down when fully opened. If going to the track, you just flip the plate up, switch is exposed in case something happens and you need to turn off the power. With the plate down, you never know its there. 73-87 cab mount door bumpers were attached on the bottom side of the bumper plate, keeping the license plate from rattling when driving.
EDIT: My battery was relocated under the bed, you need a disconnect switch to pass inspection if taking the truck down the track.

Re: Battery Disconnect Switch Location
This is only going to be a bandaid solution. You need to figure out what is killing you battery and fix that.
I've had vehicle sit longer than a month and still be able to start it. |

When truck goes in for paint a painless will be ran. Even after the disconnect will still be used

Re: Battery Disconnect Switch Location
I had my 77 re-wired over the winter and used a EZ wire 21 circuit harness that I got off Fleabay for way less than a painless. The guy that wired my truck recommended it. He said it's very easy to install.
