Re: How Many Of You Drive Your 60-66 Trucks Daily?
My truck has been my daily driver for about 5 yrs now. 350 with 700r4, manual brakes and steering. I've had almost no issues other than had to replace starter. Cruises great at 70MPH.

Re: How Many Of You Drive Your 60-66 Trucks Daily?
Things bring forth a good question many have been wondering however. How did you brace your seats on the floor pan? I am sorry about the truck. The questions are always will the 3 pt hold up in a wreck and how to bolt them so they will you have proven both

Went to work the other day and when I was leaving after work I found a lake of coolant under the truck. :-( Long story short. ... cracked block.. Now I have to decide on what to do. .. LT1 or pure Pontiac power plant. .. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: How Many Of You Drive Your 60-66 Trucks Daily?
What type of setup do you have for the 700R4 to go in to OD / Lockup
I installed a switch on the dash with a light but honestly I leave it on 99per cent of the time. It kicks down on it's own. If I do turn the switch off, it won't shift into overdrive. There are wiring diagrams on this forum that shows the wiring. It's quite simple and I would recommend this setup. |

Re: How Many Of You Drive Your 60-66 Trucks Daily?
My 65 panel was my ride for a few years 96-99. I had a few other vehicles but I almost always drove it. Completely stock 250 3spd 4.10 rear. I kept it in good mechanical shape and it was one of, if not the most reliable daily driver I've ever had. Upgrades are nice but not really necessary. . If I had to pick 2 things to add to the 65 when I start driving it again is overdrive and a swaybar . I drive more on the interstate now ,and I later drove a 71 daily it was nice not having my door handles scrape on turns.
Here it is around April of 95

Re: How Many Of You Drive Your 60-66 Trucks Daily?
This has been my daily driver since 99, the old girl has gone thru a few facelifts since then. 383 stroker, 700R4, has been very reliable, added disk brakes to help whoa her down.

Re: How Many Of You Drive Your 60-66 Trucks Daily?
Not any more, but just wanted to say that I drove '64 to '66 Chev/GMC trucks as Daily Drivers for over 25 years straight. They brought me great service and saved me a lot of money to boot.
Still have 2 out of the 3. One is a parts truck, the other is still very restorable. The restorable one wore out another engine in 2000 and I parked it as I had picked up a '72 C-10 in the meantime. Those trucks were: -'66 GMC 1000 Short Bed Stepside, 305 V-6, 3-Speed -'64 Chevy C-30 Stake Body, 6-292, 4-Speed -'66 Chevy C-10 Long Bed Fleetside, 327, 3-Speed I'd still buy another in a heartbeat, but the pickings are now more plentiful in the '67 to '72 models. I now have 3 of those. Bill

Re: How Many Of You Drive Your 60-66 Trucks Daily?
I bought this 64 chevy truck 10 years ago but had it sitting in backyard for a couple months it was not a runner and was in faded black primer with alot of spider webs. I was already working on another 64 daily driver. Grandpa wanted it so I sold it to him 10 years ago and he fixed it up now I bought it back on Friday. So now I am making this my daily driver. Well only vehicle I own now

Re: How Many Of You Drive Your 60-66 Trucks Daily?
Just bumping this thread up to get some more input. My 2010 Crv, after $8000 down, cost me $250 a month for 60 months in just car payments. It is now worth maybe $5000. If I can get my 65 up in the 15mpg, it would cost me less than buying a new gas efficient car. Also, my 65 probably won't go down in value.

Re: How Many Of You Drive Your 60-66 Trucks Daily?
When I finish mine (next month hopefully) it will be my daily driver. I look forward to it...
Before I started the restoration I had a 10 gallon tank and was getting 7 MPG...I now have a 19 gallon tank and hope to get 24+ with EFI and a new crate engine...anything above 20 I will be happy. |

Never mind, I went back to your build thread. I will be anxious to see what you get. My 65 has a low mileage rebuilt 283, and my 66 has a low mileage 350 Goodwrench crate. I haven't checked my 66, but my 65 got 10 the last I checked. I need to do some tuning.
