Question regarding steel wheels..
So I went to the Portland swap meet and found what I thought was a 15x8 6x5.5
Steel wheel. We'll I should have measured it because it's 15x9 now I am pretty sure that's not a standard size please correct me if I am wrong. The ultimate desired outcome was 15x8's on the back and 15x6's up front. I found a 15x7 on craigslist for 10$ couldn't pass it up and now I am wondering if that's a standard size. If they are can anyone point me in a direction to help me make it 15x9 on back and 15x7 up front? Or do I need to just fin 8's and 6's? This is the style wheel with my caps and without They should look pretty cool with the impala caps. Oh and the offset on the 15x9 is 4".. Thanks all

Re: Question regarding steel wheels..
First you need to be sure to measure from inside bead to inside bead. I don't know about 7" or 9" steel factory wheels, just 6" and 8". I'll bet that wheel is 8".

Re: Question regarding steel wheels..
Pretty common mistake to measure outside of rim instead of inside bead. special-K is right, measures to inside of bead.

Re: Question regarding steel wheels..
Always measure to the outside and subtract one inch!
More accurate than trying to measure bead to bead. |

Re: Question regarding steel wheels..
Give 10 people a tape measure and tell them to measure the width from rim edge to rim edge and all of them will get exactly the same measurement.
Get those same 10 people to measure the bead to bead and you'll get 10 different answers. What are you gonna do when the tire is mounted? Can't measure bead to bead but you can still measure rim edge to rim edge. |

Re: Question regarding steel wheels..
the minus 1 inch portion of your equation is totally dependent upon the wheel itself. some wheels have smaller leading edge. some have a larger leading edge. your logic is flawed.
oh. i see you're from canada. <snicker> <point> |

Re: Question regarding steel wheels..
All our rims in Canada are exactly 1" extra so we just measured edge to edge and subtract hahaha
*Not serious for those who actually think Canadians have weird stuff and live in Igloos ![]()

Re: Question regarding steel wheels..
Bottom line is, the OP thought he has a 228.6 MM wheel, but after subtracting 25.4 MM, actually has a 203.2 MM wheel.
How the hell go we get so much mileage out of a simple subject like this. We obviously need a life. Have a Great Day, Larry

Re: Question regarding steel wheels..
And to address another of the OP's questions, I would run whatever sizes you can find given that they're matched pairs. If that means 6s/8s (15.24/20.32s), 7/9s, or 6/9s it shouldn't be a big deal. I would just test fit the wheels before mounting tires to eyeball that there is enough room and the backspacing is what you want. Our rear wheel wells are pretty roomy but the front fender edge can get close sometimes on a lowered truck.

You don't want those.
Probably just sell them to me. I'm too good to you.
