Anybody ever put bedliner on their steps?

I've got a TF and am thinking about doing that for the door and step side steps.

I would use the SEM bedliner and have my paint shop tint it with the same color I'm using on the cab and bed.

I just wonder if anybody has done this and whether they thought it was a good decision or not.

Yes, i did the same thing on my 58 hut didnt tint it. Just used black, textured and was a great non slip application that the wife liked.

Had the running boards on the 50 truck done by the previous owner. Took me 3 days to grind it off and paint them. The 46 burb has bedlined running boards and as much as I disslike the look outside vs. Inside on a TF, im not spending another 3 days grinding!

Roger, I'm going to be doing that to my truck very soon. The restoration was completed in 1998 so the steps have seen a fair share of use. I'm using a rattle can version we like to use on our school bus steps for ease of application and cleanup. My interior is stock color, dark grey floors and kick panels, and this product ends up with a dark grey finish which will look acceptable. I'm not sure if I'm going to apply it to the vertical surfaces around the step though... I'll decide that when I actually start taping.

The heavy bed liner applied with pressurized spray gun should be extremely durable.

I used the UPOL Raptor Liner kit. Very impressed with the product. Nice texture, easy to apply, hard as a rock. Rattle can bedliners are not as durable and do not provide a consistent textured finish.

It works great for me after over a year of use.
My body shop was putting it on the inside of the fenders, at my request, so I asked them to do the freshly painted steps.

I used the Upol Raptor tint-able bed-liner. It worked great and is a perfect match. It's also inexpensive compared to having it done. You can buy the kit on Amazon for $60 less than a paint supplier charges for the same kit.

UPOL. On amazon it runs $119 for the kit and shipping is free if you have Prime. The 4 liter kit will do the bed sides, bed front, tailgate back and both steps with no problem. Our local English color is charging $180 for the same kit. It's super easy to apply and looks as good as those professionally applied bed-liner outfits. I used it for the cab floor and under cab as well. Definitely helps as a sound deadener.

You get a pint of your truck's color in base coat and follow the directions that come with the kit for mixing it together. The kit needs to be the "tintable" type. It usually comes with gun which screws on to the bottles of liner. The gun connects to your compressor hose. Mask of anything you don't want splatter on. They also sell the kit in black like DYNO used.

I thought about that too O but went with the turquoise carpet instead of black...so just decided to tint with body color. I tend to like not seeing the bedliner but that's just my taste.

Does the UPOL product keep its shine? I have never seen a bedliner that didn't turn very dull in a year or so. I have thought about this for my running boards but don't want flat black boards in a year or so.

Rattle can bedliners are not as durable and do not provide a consistent textured finish.

The spray can product holds up well in the step wells of the school buses. To get a consistent finish I put the can in the air powered paint shaker first. Getting it mixed consistently is the best way I've found to get good results out of any spray can.

I don't know about the black UPOL but the tintable stuff I've used has held up extremely well. I first started using it to line the inside of a number of Jeep CJ's we restored 10 years ago. It held it's shine real well even after repeated mud baths and abuse. It may have a lot to do with the quality of paint you mix into it.

The black has held up on my 57 for over a year of being sprayed in the engine bay, firewall, inner fenders and stepside rear fenders.

Liked it so much I'm going to spray my 66 with it as well.

I ended up using SEM Pro-Tex. I got the tintable version and got a pint of tint in the green color of the truck. Did the 4 steps and the bed sides, front and tailgate.

Sprayed it this morning. I'm very pleased how it came out.

That looks great. Just a thought... You've done a beautiful job with the cab interior so this might not sound good but GM used a textured coating on the dash to reduce glare. If your eyes are light sensitive like mine the reflecting sunlight can really make your eyes hurt on long drives. And with the sun at the right angle, light reflecting off the dash could be killer.

It's really too late for me to think about this bed-liner on the dash. Just put the w/s in and I used all the bed-liner today.
Pretty good idea though. Probably still wouldn't have done it even if I had given it thought. I kind of like the shiney look on there.

Will cross that bridge if glare becomes an issue. I think the dark color will help. I painted one on another car (an El Camino) a really light color once and the glare was horrible. They made a velro-on dash cover for it so I bought a black one and put it on there. Still got the car and still use it that way.

Another thing that affects this is the angle of the w/s. I have a shiney turqoise color on the dash of my '55 Bel Air and glare isn't a problem. The turquoise is fairly light and I was concerned about glare but I surmized that the relatively upright angle of the w/s was what made it not an issue. The w/s angle on this pickup is pretty upright as well.
