How tight to do the upper and lower control arm bushes?

As it says really.

Just finished rebuilding then front suspension but looking for abvice on how tight to do the upper and lower control arm bushes.

Got it on the floor with weight back on the suspension, wound the bushes in equally and now got to tighten them up.

Not got a socket large enough so using my trusty large stilsons, so how tight is just right??

Hi Paul, I've just done mine this weekend, I used a 36mm socket for the uppers and a 42mm socket for the lowers (they're close enough), the bushes literally screw all the way in and stop when they hit the arm, I used a 24" power bar rather than a ratchet and had to get a 3/4 drive 42 mm socket and an adaptor as the 1/2" ones were a fortune. I'm going to post up some pictures later.

Thanks Ian, wasnt sure of the sizes but just ordered these sockets from Amazon. For £15 delivered seemed easier than potentially damaging something with the stilsons (probably me...)

Found a torque setting of 110lb ft it reusing the old bushes if any use to you.

I found the following torque specs, lower bushes 130 (used) and U bolts 45. Uppers, shaft nuts 70 and bushes 115 (used), I found some torque settings for new bushes (which is what I've used) but the were way above my torque wrench settings, so I just gave them a good old "nip" with a long bar. I'll check them when they've done 500 miles

Every time I sit down to write an update I get distracted, have lots of half written updates but, like the truck, nothing finished!

But! I am determined to get the brake conversion, new wheels and suspension finished in the next month.

I just did mine 1968 steel bushings what year are yours?The paper for the lowers said 65ftlbs for half ton and 110 for 3/4 up .i tightened mine all the way against the a arm it stops when tight then adjusted it from there had to use a socket and 3/4 impact 1 3/8 and 1 5/8 sockets .

Mine is a 66. Seems to be a lot of conflicting information regarding torque settings....

I have seen 70lbft for the U bolts and 110lbft for used bushings. New was 240lbft for the lowers.

Interested to hear what the 'true' numbers should be as my sockets have just arrived.
