Smaller diameter power brake booster?

The 82 Chevy truck booster I have on my project is hitting during my motor swap. The diameter is just a little too much. Is there another year brake booster I can use with the captain fab power brake adapter plate that is smaller than the 82 model I have? I think mine is a 82 k20 or k30 booster.

I'd swap it for a hydroboost setup...you won't regret it..

Re: Smaller diameter power brake booster?

Thank you. I might do that actually. Perhaps down the road but probably not at the moment. Is there a way to get a smaller booster back there just until the swap is done? I see there is a 9" delco booster that came on mid 60's GM cars...would that bolt up to the bracket?

Re: Smaller diameter power brake booster?

Ok just pulled the booster, installed the injection pump....and a smaller diameter wont even do it.

Gotta go hydroboost.

Any tips on what part numbers to scoop from the parts store to make it all work with my captain fab bracket? Or is there a different bracket?

Re: Smaller diameter power brake booster?

They make 7 inch double diaphragm boosters.

Check this one out. It has parts numbers and directions for a cheap hydroboost set up: http://c10forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14590&page=4 It starts about half the page down.

Re: Smaller diameter power brake booster?

Thanks. Looks like an 80's hydroboost and an additional captain fab plate and im good.

I would love a 7"...but what vehicle did it originally come on?

I wanna say a corvette but you can look them up on summit or speedway. They sell univeral ones and have the measurements.

Re: Smaller diameter power brake booster?

Well I am going to put a disk Dana 60 up front so dual might just make it even harder. Perhaps hydroboost is my only ticket. And I assume I can just mount the hydroboost upside down so the bulk of it is on the fender side?

Re: Smaller diameter power brake booster?

Ok I am finding lots of 7" delco boosters and starting to think that is the way to go. Can anyone confirm a year and vehicle to find/buy this off of?

Re: Smaller diameter power brake booster?

There is really no"bulk" to a hydroboost...its about the same size as a master cylinder and the way it bolts on it will only go one way..

don't bother with anything else...the hydro-boost is what you want.

I remember reading something by captinfab about it, maybe pm him. I wish I could be of more help. I had started researching but ultimately reworked my motor mounts to lower the engine and cleared my booster.

Re: Smaller diameter power brake booster?

Ok sounds like hydroboost or bust! I could lower my engine with the front 44 but once I go Dana 60 front it will be a problem so I am keeping it all up higher.

Re: Smaller diameter power brake booster?

Another vote the hydro. Its a mess o' lines to figure out at first, but a few calls to the local hydraulic shop will make life MUCH easier (don't bother with the parts store, call Parker or someone like General).

I can lockup Wilwood's and stop my truck harder than any of my latemodels w/abs.

I got mine from a 97 Astro. I have a thread somewhere on here about how I rebuilt it just incase.

Re: Smaller diameter power brake booster?

I hope I can find a hydroboost at the junkyard that just bolts to the captain fab adapter I have. If not he says he will have more hydroboost brackets shortly.

Re: Smaller diameter power brake booster?

If you go to the junkyard make sure you get the pushrod ,spring ,and retainer with the hydro...if you get one from the parts store it won't come with it.

What engine are you installing? I see in another thread that you don't have enough room for deluxe heater either.
