2 LSX Swaps
Hi All
I think I have officially gone nuts! I bought both the 72 GMC's (K20 & C20) that Bad4X4 had for sale a couple of months ago. I have spent the time searching up various engine combo's for the C20 but I wanted an LS for the K20 with an Overdrive tranny. I think I'm heading into info overload as every search seams to end up in hundreds of posts to read. In case it isn't obvious, I haven't do an LS swap before now. I just picked up a 2004 C2500 with a 6.0 for the C20, and was planning on driving the K20 while I put the 6.0 in the C20. Then I found the QuadraJet on the K20 started leaking fuel and the fuel inlet stripped when I took it apart. Low and behold, I came across a 2000 K2500 with a 5.3 and blown transmission cheaper than a new carb. Of course I haven't got any room to store all these trucks. BAD4X4 has been great and the C20 is still at his place but I have to pick it up soon. So my quandary is what parts do I need to strip off the donor trucks so I can send them on the way. My thoughts are: 2005 C2500 - Drivetrain Engine to driveshaft, wiring harness, throttle pedal, TAC module, transmission cross member, computer Question - Is it worth it to change out the rear axel to upgrade to disk brakes? 62000 K2500 - Engine, wiring harness, computer If I can find a cheap quadrajet, i'll stick to my plan, however I may end up doing both swaps at the same time. Re: 2 LSX Swaps
Good idea, probably keep the entire air intake on both trucks to be safe.

Re: 2 LSX Swaps
Not sure if the stock intake tubes will work or not...I used all spectre on mine..but it can't hurt...its easier to keep something til you know you don't need it than wish you had it after you got rid of it..I'd hang on to anything that's attached to the engine/trans..

Re: 2 LSX Swaps
Any thoughts on using the rear diff out of the 2005 C2500 on the C20? It worth it just to get rear disk brakes?

2005 is a lot wider than stock rear.

Re: 2 LSX Swaps
Well, got the 2005 C20 home today. Its got 3 issues:
Both rear O2 sensors are throwing codes and the air bags need servicing, I'm not worried about these as neither will be used after the swap. The bigger concern is that the truck went into limp mode "Reduced Engine Power" after I cleaned some of the crap off the engine. I'm thinking its probably the throttle bottle connector wiring. But I have to check it out as I want this one cleared up before I do the swap. |

Just /sitting here and started thinking about radiators for the C20, original 72 or the 2005? Let me know what you think.
Thanks Chris |

Re: 2 LSX Swaps
I would keep the rear just in case. Do you have someone with a good code reader? I was having issues with my swap because the trans wasn't set to manual(non-electric) so it would run great sitting in the driveway but go into limp mode when I would drive it. I know it's still in the original truck but it could be something simple as a bad connection somewhere. A good code scanner will tell you exactly whats going on. The one he had could turn off individual injectors/coils and do all kinds of crazy tests.

Re: 2 LSX Swaps
I've got a code reader but it doesn't work to the level of detail. For instance, I know that the rear O2 sensors are shot but I won't be using them after the swap.
