Front bumper bolt and nut question.
I removed my front bumper the other day and I'm in the process of cleaning up the bolts and nuts. I noticed the nuts have slots cut into the top side.
What is that sort of nut called? (I assume it's a locking feature of some sort). Also, if I was to go back with regular nuts, could I just slip in a lock washer and get the same effect? |

Re: Front bumper bolt and nut question.
It's called a top lock nut or stop nut. A lock washer should work assuming it seats properly.

Re: Front bumper bolt and nut question.
Thanks.
Now speaking of "seating properly" I noticed the flat washers that were on there had a pretty solid impression of a hexagon shoved into them. Do I need new flat washers when I put the bumper back on? |

Re: Front bumper bolt and nut question.
I'm just going to go back with a Teflon type lock nut on mine. By the way washers are about .17cents. I'd replace them. Either way but sure if there enough room for a Teflon type nut, but I'll cross that bridge when I get there

Re: Front bumper bolt and nut question.
So that's a "stover nut" that came on the front bushing bolts!
I ended up just buying new zinc plated nuts, washers, and split washers. HMM>....would I need like a grade 5 or grade 8 (stronger metal) nut though? |

Re: Front bumper bolt and nut question.
IMO, you're overthinking this. You're just bolting on a bumper. .02

Grade 5 is what was used.

Re: Front bumper bolt and nut question.
Hmm. I may just use what I had on originally, maybe using a new flat washer and adding in a split washer.
Later, if I add the Luverne grill guard, I'll have to have 4 longer (than stock) carriage bolts. I am fearful to use grade 5 there as the grill guard may bend the frame if the bolts won't break off. |
