Gears and Carb question

Hi all, I have just purchesed from a friend a 1985 Chevy C10 1/2 ton, that is in very sweet condition. He had changed the 305 for a very nicel fresh built 396. So now it has way to much bottom end, I was wondering if anyone knows what gears came standered in the C10?? On the RPO code it has GQ1-Rear Axle standard. I have all the other RPO codes but there is not one for the gear ratio. I know I can take the cover off and count but I am laid up on crutches at the moment and my wife has banned me from the garage, and if I tried sneaking out there to take a look she would have my head on a plate, my friend doesnt know what gears are in it.
Also there is a problem I believe with the carb as this was taken off the 305 and used for the 396 when he did the engine swap, every time you start her you have to pump the hell out of it, once she starts run sweet, but turn off the engine and you have to pump and floor the gas to get her started, is as if the carb is draining of gas, my friend said he had the same problem with the carb when it was on the 305. Its a quadrajet. I know it could be the fuel pump, but what are the odds of the 305 and the fresh built 396 (that had a new fuel pump put in) both having the same problem??
thanks for your help with this
