Temp sender doesn't fit?
Bought a new temp sender to replace the one in the drivers side head. The old one has a male spade connector on it while the new one has the "button" type head on it. After pulling the old one out and having a small amount of coolant pour out, I see that the new one is quite a bit larger and won't thread into the head! I ordered it from a well known classic auto parts store online and it said it was for my year and engine. Anyone have any ideas?

Define "quite a bit" Stock is usually 1/2 thread and button connector. You may have 1/8" but it will be half the size of your new part. Is it?

72 used 1/2 pipe threads. In the 80s GM switched to 3/8 pipe threads. Spade connector is for a light button connector is for gauge. You must have a newer head on your blazer

Yeah, the one that's in there with the spade connection seems to be roughly half the size of the new one. My gauge only goes up to second line, that's why I wanted to change it out. I'm pretty sure that's incorrect and the guage itself tests out as good. It's also got an Edelbrock intake on it but I couldn't see any ports to put the new sender in it either. The only place I saw that might accept it was the thermostat housing, there's an allen wrench plug on it. Sucks cause I'd also ordered a pigtail for the button head sender and those, while not expensive, ain't cheap!

Well I looked again and found the port hidden underneath the radiator hose where it connects to the thermostat housing. I'm learning this truck slowly and the sender and gauge are where I'm at now. With the new sender in and the motor up to temperature, the gauge reads on the very highest part of the normal range. Is this correct for a stock sender and gauge combo? It never crosses over to the "Hot" side, just the highest part of normal and I can tell when the thermostat opens and closes by watching the gauge. Is this right and can someone post a pic or two of where theirs rides at on the gauge? Thanks, I appreciate it.
