Re: Is this ultra rare or what?
WOW!!! Quit the thread!!! As some guys have stated Chevrolet never made a 4-bolt 327. For examble: Corvettes had a 327 motor rated at 375 horse power with fuel injection, all 2-bolt mains. It would stand to reason if this engine had that much power, wouldn't Chevy had made that a 4-bolt main? Check the crank number on your tear down, that tells a lot on what this motor is. Chevy in the late '60s used the same block for 327 and 350 motor, but different cranks. Like one guy stated why would Chevy make only one 4-bolt main 327? Makes no sense at all. Chevrolet wouldn't "custom" make just one motor!

Re: Is this ultra rare or what?
I did once hear that Massey Furgeson combines came with 327 4 bolt main motors for a short period of time. It would be an industrial motor obviously but something to add to the folk lore lol

Re: Is this ultra rare or what?
I had a '67 RS/SS 350 Camaro. It had a steel crank, two bolt mains, large journal. One odd thing was the rods...it still had 11/32" rod bolts, like the SJ rods (as I recall), instead of the more common 3/8" rod bolts that the LJ engines used. May have been a '67 350-only thing.
Or I could just be trippin'.

Re: Is this ultra rare or what?
industruial engines were available from all the mjor vehicle manufacturers. inluding chevy sbc and bbc's.
nobody in thier right mind would tool up for a chevy 327 and compete directly with chevy in that market. not cost effectice nor sensible. do what pleases you regarding your truck peronally I would rethink the 4 speed/t221 combo behind a supercharged 327 since its no longer origonal and thats a weak combo, you might consider an nv4500/205. people still using those 221's would be the most greatfull people knowing that another one may still be around for the future. you blow it up? well...i got five of them all blown up. |

1-there is no such thing as a factory 327 with 4-bolt mains. Ever. 2-there were no small blocks with 4-bolt mains before the 1969 model year. If there is any proof otherwise, I would love to see it.
