front and rear suspension conversion questions (kit)
I'm looking to add disk and drop spindles to my 63 c10.
Can anyone recommend a kit that will keep me from runnning into a ton of head aches. (I thinking a kit would be less hassle than junk yarding front suspension and then having to purchase drop spindles anyway) I found this Amazon.com: McGaughys C-10 13" Front Big... I'm also concerned I'm going to run into wheel fitment problems. Would also like to use 5 on 4.75 for better availability of wheel choices. Honestly i would go with http://www.earlyclassic.com/ they have everything you need.And i would skip the 5x4.75 bolt pattern the 5x5 is better to me unless the rims you want only come in the smaller lug pattern.

thanks for the input. can you explain why you think 5 x 5 pattern is better?
Just curious, and would like to find out the pros and cons before having to do this over again at later date. thanks again! |

5x4.75 is a car bolt pattern never used on a truck stock,While the 5x5 is a stock common truck bolt pattern.To have the rear axles and drums changed to a 5x4.75 would take a shop to redrill them or custom order them.But if you go 5x5 both will be off the shelf parts you can order almost anywhere.Have you looked at rims in both bolt patterns?

No I have not looked rim bolt patterns yet. I do however plan to rebuild the rear end in the truck. And will probably switch out axles. that is why I was asking about the different bolt patterns. I was just under the assumption that five on four and three-quarter it would be more readily available in a rim size.

If you just want oem rims stick with 5x5,If you want something different i would pick out my wheels first since some are made in one bolt pattern and some are made in both.

They do have a power brake booster its just not part of the kit.

You're getting good advice. The only company I know of that may offer a booster/MC with a drop kit is Custom Performance Products. However, my previous experiences with them have not been all that great. Lackluster products and horrible customer service. Early Classic Enterprises(ECE) has high quality products, and great customer service. Also, any kits I've ordered include everything I needed to install them. There were no trips to the parts store or hardware store to pick up stuff that was left out.
As for a booster/MC combo, check out www.performanceonline.com They sell a pretty slick bolt on setup.

There is no shortage of rims available in the 5x5 pattern. You can use any of the 71-87 truck rims that were offered from the factory. If you want aftermarket, there are a gazillion sizes and styles available.
