Front Cross Member Question ??
New Guy,I have a question concerning front cross member. When I bought my truck the PO told me that it had a 1976 front cross member. It has had power steering added at some point. It has drum brakes and I would like to change to disc. Are there any identifying marks or numbers?

Re: Front Cross Member Question ??
Post a pic. No reason for it to have the 76 front cross member in it if it still has drum brakes. Pics of the A-arms will tell what it is. Look in the FAQ section above for what to do for disc. Cross member really does not make much difference.

Re: Front Cross Member Question ??
No cross member swap there. Just what your truck was born with.

Re: Front Cross Member Question ??
The upper and lower control arms for the later disc brake spindles have rubber bushings on the inboard ends, compared to the metal type shown in the above picture:

Re: Front Cross Member Question ??
Mark, do you know what year the control arms first came with rubber bushings from the factory in our trucks? Thanks

Re: Front Cross Member Question ??
73 I think is the year they changed. Ball joints also changed.

Re: Front Cross Member Question ??
Correct. 73 was the model year the bushings changed.
