1966 250 dipstick correct??
I have a 66 c10 with the original 250 six cylinder and according to the dipstick it holds 4 quarts of oil up to the full mark. I read it is supposed to hold 5 quarts. I am using the larger filter...Does this appear to be the original dipstick? or any other suggestion?

Re: 1966 250 dipstick correct??
My 70 with a 250 6 was 5 quarts with filter,4 without filter. I can't double check since I don't have the truck, but that does look like the dip stick for the GM 6.

I am showing full with a new wix 51060 and 4 quarts of oil. Could I have a quart of sludge in the pan?

Re: 1966 250 dipstick correct??
A) make sure the dip stick tube in the block is correct
B) do you have a friend that has a 250 ? borrow his dip stick and see if their is a difference.

Re: 1966 250 dipstick correct??
Just from what I can see , that dipstick looks to be the pre 1963 design with the , for lack of a better term, the loose washer style , they used these on early 235s and v8s. Then they changed to the style with the sleeve that fits over the dipstick tube. Is there a part number stamped in the dipstick down at the bottom ? Looks to be something there? I can track that number. I would put the 5th quart in it and mark the level after its been run. Never heard of a 4 quart system.

Re: 1966 250 dipstick correct??
Since it was mentioned, I looked in my old photos and this is the only views of the dipstick on my 70's 250 that I had.
Maybe they will help, but it may be as said above that was one from the older style 6.
