Re: exhaust question
You can weld them on, the manifolds are cast steel not cast iron.

Re: exhaust question
Thanks for the info. That is good to know. Maybe I will go with those instead.

Re: exhaust question
Which ones did you post in that pic? They looked like they exit straight down, which wouldn't clear most of the things I've put LS motors into...but I've never put a motor in an AD.

I was thinking that if I welded on a v-band like you suggested I could grind the factory flange ears off for even more clearance. Maybe even weld a 45 degree pipe on and then the v-band so it gets down and curves parallel to the frame rail... That's just an idea though.

Re: exhaust question
You could but you'll need to use a thicker wall tube to do so. For strength reasons on a manifold, I wouldn't go from thick cast->thin pipe->flange. The joint at the thin pipe to the casy would be a natural weak point.
If you need that departure angle, you can angle the vband flange itself off the manifold as long as you have enough shoulder for the clamp to secure without binding. Otherwise just put the flange on flat, and build the egress angle onto your downtube/midpipe on the exhaust side.

Re: exhaust question
There's a thread in forced induction on ls1tech where someone sent a manifold out and the chemical composition was indeed cast iron, with close to 4% carbon. That said, I rarely hear of problems welding them (which surprises me).

Re: exhaust question
Which one? The one on my truck now is an H pipe from summit that I put together.
