Let's Play a Game
Here is the deal....repainted, new seat cover....belonged to a man who has owned it for 95% of its life...he just died at 100 years of age. He had it painted and the seat recovered about 7 years ago...originally an ochre truck.
Family trying to sell truck. Supposedly 19,000 mile original truck.. I am seriously considering buying this truck....$10K. Lets play the game of "that isn't an original mileage truck and here's why.."

Re: Let's Play a Game
Some more pics.....And as of right now they have no proof of the mileage other than the in laws word that the truck sat in the same garage for 20 years and hasn't been registered since '08. He apparently drove it sporatically over the years.

Re: Let's Play a Game
I doubt it. Plastic fuel filter, chrome water neck, why would those be added onto such a low mile truck? Still looks like a nice truck though. Believe what you want, there's no proof either way, just speculation.

Dash bezel's been painted. Firewall has been painted. Missing the ignition switch plate. Steering wheel wouldn't be that bad on a low mile truck that has been stored inside. LockDoc

Re: Let's Play a Game
it's been repainted(good job) seat recovered, been setting 20 years. 19,000 or 119000 don't really make much diff. it is not a original anyway. I would think on it best day it wouldn't be a 4000 to 5000 truck.also there could be alot hiding under that new paint. I think it would have been worth more if they had left it alone.

Re: Let's Play a Game
Agreed. And since nobody mentioned it yet, that seems like a lot of wear & tear on the SPID for only 19K miles. Nice truck though....

Re: Let's Play a Game
You have to look at the right side of the brake pedal pad. There should not be any wear on it at all in 19000 miles....

Re: Let's Play a Game
Truck is a Texas truck so I can justify the wheel being cracked.
The brake and clutch pedals look like they should. The truck was color changed from ochre to this yellow color. The water neck and the fuel filter have been changed and I can understand that if they went to Pep boys or somewhere. I am thinking I will have to drive 4 1/2 hours Saturday to lay eyes on it....Texas is a big place. If there is no rust and the underside is immaculate then I could believe the mileage claim. Would also check out the tires and see what the manufacture date is on them...they have lots of tread. If they are 20 years old then I could see it being original mileage.

The next time you go look at it take a good strong light and a piece of cardboard big enough to lay on and check the body mounts and inner rockers out. Even though it is not all original it looks like a nice truck. The condition of the bed tells me that it had a pretty easy life. Its pretty easy to tell if it has had any major body work done to it. If it drives nice and the engine sounds good they are not too far off on the price, maybe 2k high but you couldn't buy a $3,000 driver and make it look like that for that kind of money unless you could do ALL of the work yourself.... Just my 2¢ worth. LockDoc

Re: Let's Play a Game
It might be just the photos... but the speedo and gas needles look too red to be original. The factory needles were more of a Tennessee orange. Why would those need to be painted with only 19K? I don't know, but if you have some restoration anywhere around the speedometer that would bother me.
Is the grille painted black or is that just the photo? Is the front bumper painted silver or is that just the photo? POP

Re: Let's Play a Game
Why are there no marker lamps on the bed? With that being said, the paint color change was taken seriously and they did a real good job of it. That is the explaination of the ign plate above the switch they broke it or lost it during the paintjob. not real thrilled about the cluster work but all in all if it is solid work with them on the price.

Re: Let's Play a Game
Missing marker lights and front grill painted making me doubt the low mileage claim.

Re: Let's Play a Game
Like Stocker said, the SPID is pretty chewed up for such an allegedly low-miles truck. Maybe $10K is a bit much, but it would be at least that much to bring a lesser truck to that level. The value is in the eye of the beholder, IMO.

Re: Let's Play a Game
Too bad it was painted. It would be worth the price if it was an original survivor.
Look at the numbers on the odometer. GM wasn't stupid. If it is over 100k the numbers will not all be in a straight line. Under 100K and the numbers will be straight across unless the tenths (last) number is a 9 and it is rolling the next number(s) over. Good catch on the missing marker lights. I totally missed that. Under the hood. If it has been sitting a long time then the original thermostat housing, made of cast aluminum will corrode out. The rubber fuel line will be rotted out as well as the coolant hoses. As someone else mentioned, look at the pedals. At 19,000 miles there should be no wear. Usually the clutch pedal will show wear on the left side of the pedal and the brake will show wear on the right side. Last speedometer I rebuilt had a needle that looked just like that one in the picture. But it is hard to tell with pictures.

Re: Let's Play a Game
May just be how I'm looking at picks but, the bed looks like a '67. (No curves on the front side of wheel well) I'd beck for frame damage.

Re: Let's Play a Game
For $10K someone buy that green one!
Whatever happened in the 5% of the time the 100-year-old-man didn't own it seems to have been done by a teenager. You can't be a little pregnant and you can't be a virgin "except for the two guys before me". I don't think this counts as an original truck, being repainted and recovered, and what's left isn't so minty that you should overlook it. Still likely a good starting point but I think $10K is a price for a survivor of that quality, not one someone has monkeyed with...

Re: Let's Play a Game
Don't know about the mileage but it's sure not "unmolested" (looks like S-10 hubcaps). For 10K you could find something much more original- in my opinion

Re: Let's Play a Game
Just my opinion, but $10k sounds very high to me. Keep looking, you can find a much better truck for that kind of money

Re: Let's Play a Game
not a bad looking truck. certainly would be a nice start.and i wouldnt mind driving it as it is very clean looking.
i dont like seeing blackend firewalls and what happened to the plastic firewall gutter? i cant see the engine looking like it does with only 19k on it. painted latches and striker plates? good call on the bed and the spid. with the needles being painted im sure someone was playin with the numbers.
