Drive shaft questions any input.
I have a long bed I am getting ready to do a swap on. I am running a 4l60e will the original drive shaft work without changing the input shaft. Would rather run a one piece but sounds as if that could be a problem. Take suggestions

My truck is older but the driveline from my th350 had to be shortened since the 4l60 is longer. The input shaft was the same though.

Re: Drive shaft questions any input.
If your running a th350 now, the 4l60e output will match up, but I warn people against making the driveshaft a high priority. Your better off doing the swap the way you want it and having a shaft built to match....instead of setting the build around reusing an older part.
Is your original shaft a 2piece, or was there another reason you wanted to re-use the old shaft?

Re: Drive shaft questions any input.
Not necessarily. Make the driveshaft a larger diameter if it is longer

Re: Drive shaft questions any input.
I've built a dozen or so one piece shafts for lwb 67-72s
Not a good idea at stock height w trailing arms. Or if you are laying frame on 24"s. Put the engine and trans as far back as you can if you're worried about length.

My 71 LWB has the 4l80e in it with a 1 piece drive shaft and it has a 3" up front drop and 4" out back. No problems so far in 2 years of driving it.

It sucks not being able to hear! LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB! After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs. |
