Steelie Question

Hey guys I picked up a set of 15x8 6 lug steelies w/ caps for $100 in St. Louis and three of them are 4 nub and one of them is 3 nub. I had the tires taken off today so that I can have them blasted tomorrow and I noticed that the 3 nub wheel is slightly narrower than the other 3 wheels. I would say it is about one lip of the rim difference.

Is it ok to run all four of these? Will the same size tires fit all of them?

can't answer your question, but it sounds like you got a heck of a deal! i would want to find the 4th correct match, but that's just me.

I turned around and sold the caps for $60 on ebay. Ended up being one of the best CL scores I have ever had. Only had to drive 350 miles :-) I was going there anyways for something else though.

I may end up having to buy a fourth one to match and I could make the 3 nub one a spare in that case. I am going to see if anyone else chimes in.

Typically 3 nubs = 70 and older drumb brake trucks and will not clear disk brakes.
4 nubs = 71 and newer trucks and will clear disks.
Now the fact that you say they are 8" wheels makes me curious to see a picture.
I picked up a set of 4, 6" 6 lug wheels for my truck a couple years ago and got lucky as 3of them had 4 nubs just as you. I had a single 4 nub that came on my truck.
I found that stock 3 nub wheels seem to actually measure 5.5" and the 4 nub wheels a true 6".
One of my 4 nubs has a little bend and I need to find a strait one and retire the bent one to the spare.

I sand blasted them today and it turns out they are all 15x6. I still got a good deal on them and I am not hell bent on having 8" wide rims anyways.

So I guess I need to find one more four nub. I have a freshly sandblasted 3 nub I would trade ;-)

Still not a bad deal. There is 2 different backspacing's on the 15 x 6.5 4 nub wheels , just to be aware if you find a fourth. I have a pair , 1 each backspacing , could easily trade 1 for another if you get an odd one.

I didn't know that. Can you post the backspace measurements? It would be good info for a master thread.

My '67 came with 4-4nub steelies and 1-3nub. I just figured the 4nubs were of a late '70's early '80's 4x4 1/2 ton,or 4x4 blazer.
Isn't there a stamp code on the back side of the rim????

They are both on a parts truck now as rollers , won't be soon when I'll have them off , but I'll try to remember to post the measurements when I do.

Still on the lookout for a fourth wheel. I have sandblasted and primed the ones I have. Cleaned up well.
