Most primers (other than epoxy) do not seal off the surface, and rust will start forming almost like on bare metal in a humid environment. You need to either use a semi-gloss paint or a type that can blend with a flattening agent. If you're looking for something inexpensive any of the tractor enamels can be shot from dead flat to semi-gloss depending on which thinner and mixing ratio you use.

Flattened urethanes seem to be much more difficult to apply and have them come out with an even, uniform reduced gloss level overall. And the cost is dramatically more expensive, especially if it has to be done over one or more times to get it right.

Thanks for the comments, guys. I don't want to hijack this thread, but here are a few more pics. The door mirrors are now shaved, and it's been dropped a couple inches. I swapped the inline 6 & 3 on the tree for a 350 bored .40 over w/mild cam & a three speed automatic. The truck came up from Texas last year (I live in Ontario, Canada), so I don't think it's ever seen snow. It's super clean & rock solid. Lots of plans for it, but one thing at a time. You know how it goes.

looks awesome. I like the pleats on the seat, and the material, almost looks like old black bridle leather.

Re: Pics of trucks in Primer Paint

jrobertop88,

Nice ride; I really like the color. Could you please tell me what rims are on it (including size)? They look like the factory rally's, but i'm not sure. I'm looking for a set of those for my ride, but haven't come up with anything yet.

Thanks!

Another Blitz Black paint job, my 54 GMC I restored last year. Great paint, easy to use in my opinion.

That looks slick. I really like the satin paint with gloss grille. My '66 just got the same treatment. Looks killer, nice job.

I love Blitz Black! I painted my Dakota with BB and it turned out great. I've thought of painting my '64 with it, too.

Your pickup looks great, btw!
