Well, it seems that this afternoon a parcel was delivered from Summit Racing.

I ordered the parts last Monday afternoon, so 8 days........ Got a be good.

Now just got to wait till I get a chance to open, unpack and obviously use them.

I am pleased with the service, fast, efficient and got a discount from Summet as well, thanks to Flashed on here.

The shipping and UK taxes are what kills us building here.

This was thanks to "Flashed" in Canton, Georgia USA offering me his discount code for orders, so thanks for the saving buddy.

Now here is a lesson for those who do not know it...........

I have always used either guys like Steve Lang who charges a Dollar for Pound to bring in stuff, you would be hard pushed to match that yourself, so I will continue to use him in future as his service is exemplary.
Then I also use my friends like Ta2Don to pick up and post out little bits for me, like the brake rebuild kits, paying him the item and postage costs via PayPal.


This time however, with Paul Y's advice and encouragement, I investigated Summit Racing's other option....... It is called i-parcel and is a system where you pay postage or shipping and duties up front rather than paying the taxes to the couriers, or a handling fee plus duties to the Post Office.

If you look at the shipping costs, excluding taxes oon the photo, you will see that this seems to be a sensible route to go.

So I have ordered a few bits that we need to rebuild the motor better. ( I will be selling my existing camshaft and followers once the motor is rebuilt)
Hopefully the rebuild will nett us as close as possible to Summits claimed 280 bhp on these parts.

This is the problem with 5 weeks away from home, in a hotel, training, not much gets done.

Amazingly...... The first 5 weeks of classroom training for the new job came to an end yesterday.

Next up is two weeks of shadowing, and much online home study plus a week of conference, followed by one more week in class plus another exam and practical evaluation, so I really only start working the 25th of April, which means Truck and Garage time will be severely limited. But there has to be some.

In time honoured style, the last two days we had an outside lecturer in who was very good at what he does, but only let us out at 4pm which on a Friday in England, is not a good thing. My trip to the office on a good day takes two hours, being 120 miles....... Yesterday..? Three hours to get home.
I guess the upside of that is the fact it took me three hours to get home from a job, rather than an interview.

Anyway, I was tired, irritable and kinda looking for a reason to get road rage, jump out of my car and get the living cramp beat out of myself and then to become a viral sensation of how to finish a week at work. It did not happen.......

So when I got home, unpacked, laundry in the machine, cuppa tea and sandwich after 7pm the cats took notice, my wife went back to her forensic telly (I am sure she is just using it to learn how and where not to hide the body) but only after she said that the local supermarket had used me as a model for their new Ginger bread man, and that she had got me a sample (I do like gingerbread cookies)

Gotta like her thinking.

Me in shorts, roll on summer.



I had planned on leaving the big brown box unopened over the weekend, as I have a load of yard work and some online training modules to deal with over the weekend, and Sunday there is the NSRA Swapmeet in Essex.

So I only peeped when I could not wait any longer.



Looking forward to having Paul Y and mate Martin over soon to get into reassembling the motor.

Next Friday is Wheels Day over in Surrey.

Sunday and Monday is again the Chatham Festival of Steam.

Another weekend over.......

No truck time in the garage at home, but some truck stuff nonetheless.

Drove over to mate Martins this morning at 07.30 and dropped my car at his place. We then headed out to Arena Essex for the NSRA Swapmeet.

Got there nice and early, met up with Andy "Über Cool" and some of his mates in the car park to make Martin a happy chappy......

This long propshaft came from Del's truck where Martin got a cab, doors etc from last year, it went up north to Andy, and now back this way again. Martin also got lucky to buy a new heater matrix core for his truck.



My scores for the day included some stuff I have no use for but wanted and some stuff I needed for the rebuild.

Let's see if you can figure which they were......



Once calculated, based on what I paid for the mostly unused parts, and what they cost at stalls for new, it seems I was still ahead £10.00 and got the parts "free"
This is a good reason to go to Swapmeets.

Meeting up with a load of friends from various forums today made it even better.

My Best Buy for the day was this small quick release Gas filler cap for £10.00 and it is something I both wanted and needed for the rebuild.

My plans to relocate the filler neck from where it is currently in the side of the load bed.





Plan is to move the filler neck of my relocated fuel tank to the rear corner, just inside the tailgate, but below the level of the load bed as I do plan to fit a tonneau cover again once the truck is done.
This filler cap and its mount are really narrow, so will take little space.

You can see the difference. Taiwanese chrome and rust vs the solid metal item.



Also bought an oval solid ally air filter with similar look to my existing valve covers for a sensible price.

I will paint the sections between the ribs red and then polish the ribs back to original.

Next to the original air filter and valve covers.



The old school hooter is for an acoustic speaker like the one I showed on here last week.

No mornings on it, but really good quality, not sure it has seen much if any use before.

Really pleased with the score and prices.

The valve covers were off my engine, so just the air cleaner was new, but very pleased.

Will have to find a set of matching filler caps though

The filler cap is certainly one of my favourite pieces to date.

We are at Wheels day on Friday and a bike Auto Jumble on Monday.

Sure we can find a time that suits us both.



Couple of yard jobs after work, including cutting the grass.
Also turned two grass boxes into one as mine had given up on its hooks.
Managed to poke a screwdriver into the tip of my finger with force, it may hurt a bit in the morning. But Stupid Should Hurt.

After that I decided to just do another small prep job, it serves no purpose but makes me feel I have done something.

So some VHT paint on the gearbox that I had already cleaned and masked up.

Lot of effort for something that will not be seen.

I felt that way after painting my transmission too. I thought "wow I just spent a lot of time painting something no one will see, and I hope I don't have to look at too often." Oh well . . . hobby of love, not of logic, right?
