Neutral Safety Switch 4L60E Van Column

Hey All! Just picked up a 70's, 80's gmc van tilt no key steering column. It has cruise on the signal lever. In trying to find info on the column, I have a few questions.

The column has a curved harness plug and no NSS. It's my understanding that GM didn't put NSS on columns till 1969. Sound right?

The column has no NSS or holes where one once was. Most all pictures of the van columns I see have the NSS mounted on it. I am running a 2006 5.3/4L60E combo. The trans has a NSS on the drivers side. Am I correct in thinking that I don't need the column mounted one as the trans has one? Do I just have to make sure that the harness I get is wired up for a trans mounted NSS?

Please enlighten me.

Cheers!

Re: Neutral Safety Switch 4L60E Van Column

What you have is an early van tilt, and I'm going to guess it has the longer shift lever and the single button cruise switch?

But yeah, you have it right, just use the one on the side of the transmission, it'll be way more accurate and is a better switch in my opinion. You will need a starter relay though, but that isn't hard to wire up when you are doing a whole harness anyway.

Re: Neutral Safety Switch 4L60E Van Column

Thanks. Don't know about the longer shift lever. It measures 3 1/4" from the center of the column to the center of the hole on the lever. It also does have the single button cruise switch.
