6.0 vs 5.3 swap
I have a 85 k10 4x4 that I'm wanting to swap a 6.0 or 5.3 vortec. Can't decide which one I'm wanting to go with. I'm wanting to go with the 6.0 with 4l80e for power and torque but I'm considering the 5.3 because I have a 4l60e out of a 98 chevrolet Z71. Would the 98 4l60e work with a 5.3? The truck would be a weekend driver, towing every now and then. Any input would be great. Thanks.

To be honest, you would be better off buying the drivetrain from one vehicle instead of piecing things together. Usually it is cheaper in the long run. 5.3 VS 6.0 is debatable, I would say for towing to go with the 4L80E. It is a much stronger trans.

I just went through this. while I wont be towing, I kept with the idea of 3/4 ton for my c20. I bought an 02 2500 with 200K miles (little high maybe, ill find out shortly) but I payed $1800 and drove it home 30 miles.
I sold some key parts and an down to 1100 and have every possible thing I need. If I waited longer and had more room to let it sit I could have sold front fenders, headlights, seats, etc and got a little more back. I only waited about 2 weeks and wanted it out of my 2 stall garage. I would just look for a 6.0, then you'll never have to worry about it. |

6.0 can also be upgraded more. It will accept all heads ( like the new square ports) but if your not into modding it out and max power both are stock performers. But as stated for towing the 80 E all the way .

MPGS from 5.3 will be better than a 6.0 IMO.. If that concerns you. Either will be better than carbed motor though.
