1972 Cheyenne Stepside - My New Truck!
Hello everyone!
I am new to the board and just purchased a 1972 C-10. I am just starting to learn about this era trucks and thought I could find some knowledgeable people here. I have always liked this style pickup and decided to buy this one to have fun with while we are working on our 1956 Chevy Stepside Harley Hauler (major project). I also have a 1955 Chevy 2dr Post that is a fun cruiser named Bobby's Girl. Some of my previous classic Chevys include: 1957 Chevy 2dr Belair Hardtop - CCI Platinum Certified 1957 Chevy 4dr Belair Hardtop Custom 1957 Chevy Convertible 1972 Chevelle SS I think this pickup is going to be a lot of fun. It has been lowered 2 inches, built 396/400 with roller rockers, gear drive, cam, manual valve body, Crager wheels, posi, factory air, power steering, power brakes, and tach. According to the glovebox tag, it is an original Cheyenne. In the upcomming months we will be doing some improvements and detailing. I am sure there will be many questions as we go alone! Sorry these are not the best pictures. The weather has not been great. In fact, when the truck was delivered a week ago the driveway was a sheet of ice. With the power of the 396 those tires did not provide much traction! Had to put sand under them just to get the truck to the garage.

Currently it has a steel bed floor but we are thinking about putting a nice wood bed in.
We will be extending the exhaust out the back. Currently there are turn downs after it comes over the rearend and it is LOUD. Also thinking about removing the trailer hitch.

Originally I was not sure if I liked the 2-tone green and thought about spraying the roof the same color as the body. However, the glovebox door says Medium Olive/Dark Olive - so maybe I will keep it more stock looking?

The interior is pretty nice. Not much work is needed in here. Debating about going with the woodgrain package or not.

Thanks Chevy fatman.
I just posted a picture of the sticker on another post. I did not see the truck before I purchased it. I knew it had Cheyenne emblems but I did not know if it was a true Cheyenne. When it arrived, sure enough it said - "CHEYENNE EQUIPMENT" on the sticker. The majority of Cheyennes I have seen on this board are "3 tone" and are listed that way on the tag - like Blue, white, Blue. This one only says Medium Olive/Dark Olive. It was supposed to have been re-painted how they found it in its original form before restoration. I have only seen 1 other '72 Cheyenne stepside and it was a single color (I forget if it was a member on this board or another one). I am learning, so if anyone has any information please share.

Welcome from Minnesota. I have a Longhorn truck painted in the opposite colors. It is dark olive at the top and medium at the bottom. I am also glad to see some vintage iron move into the Albany area. I was just in your area last month and only spotted 1 67-72 truck.

First, let me say, very nice truck, especially for your region of the country. Did you locate it in NY or did you get it elsewhere?
I beleive the paint scheme and lack of side mouldings is correct for a stepside Cheyenne. The fleetside models got the upper and lower trim as well as the 2-tone that included the accent color between the mouldings. This would look out of place on a stepside IMO, and apparently GM agreed. I'm curious about a couple of things: 1. Does it have a headliner? 2. Is the BB original to truck? If so it's a 402. 3. Were you told why the PO didn't use the woodgrain door panels and interior glovebox/cluster?

I have a Gmc Sierra which is the same as a Cheyenne... even says Cheyenne equipment on the glovebox. It had that same paint job,...with the side mouldings(it's a fleetside). It had the woodgrain....on the doors and glovebox...but the dash was olive green too....I think that was a GMC thing

The original BB would have been a 402, badged 400 I believe. But that is a good lookin' truck no matter what! Welcome, and how about a pic of that '55?
