Headers & Clearance?
Looking to put some shorty headers on a 72 2WD Suburban which has full air ride suspension. When it's at the lowest ride level, the frame is on the ground. I am wondering if shorty headers would have any ground clearance issues? Was also looking at buying the Hooker Header Comp prefab exhaust pipe kit and only long tube Hooker Headers are a direct fit.
Just wanted to know your experiences/advise. Also what headers you have used that don't exceed $200. I am willing to modify the headers, just not sure how much I could actually take off them. Thanks!!! |

Re: Headers & Clearance?
if by any chance your burb has a big block in it, I have a set of custom headers that I never got around to using on mine. The guy I bought them from had them made for ground clearance on a lowered BB suburban. He told me that they do not hang below the frame. They have never been used. Still in plastic bags.

Re: Headers & Clearance?
I may have interest in the BBC headers if they're just sitting around in bags and have 3/8 flanges. I'm running 1/4" flange long headman's on my 454 BBC currently and they are tight (previous owner clearanced the frame rails) and might be nice to tuck them up at frame height.
If you have a pic or two to share... thanks! Brian |

Re: Headers & Clearance?
Absolutely I'm certainly not laying frame in this rig so don't "need"em...just curious if they'd squeeze in better then the set I'm running

Re: Headers & Clearance?
Ya me either. I don't want them laying underneath because I spend a lot of time off road and don't want to start fires.

Re: Headers & Clearance?
These are the headers. The flanges appear to be about 5/16" thick. They have an O2 sensor bung. I have never had them installed on my suburban, so I can't say how they fit. As I mentioned, the guy I bought them from had them made specifically for ground clearance on a lowered vehicle.
