bedside pricing??? holy smoke...

I have decided to replace my 55 1st bedsides due to them being so far gone and not being able to find any decent replacements. I may build my own but was looking at the pricing and can't believe the difference in pricing of the 47-53 and the 54-55 1st..ddaanngg...almost $200 per side difference in price..why so much difference with only a few degrees angle of bend on the top rail.. if I buy I may just go with 47-53 style..

Re: bedside pricing??? holy smoke...

If you go directly to Mar-K.com which is where most if not all the vendors get their bedsides anyway the 47-53 are $320 ea. the 54-55 1st are $380 ea.
$60 difference....agreed that it is odd tho that there is a difference at all

Re: bedside pricing??? holy smoke...

Just an FYI: The Truck Shop in Orange, CA has all AD and TF bedsides fr $265 each:

http://www.truckandcarshop.com/trucks47_59/t47_072.html

I know some have posted that they've had customer service issues with them. I use them all the time - bought my bed front panel from them today in fact - and have never had any issue but they're local to me so no shipping, no dealing with anyone but counter men. Hope this helps.

Heres the Mar-K part numbers their flash style catalog is a little tough to use and isn't link friendly as I just learned (the reason I didn't just supply links)

Driver side original - 102637
Passenger side original - 102638
Drive side without stack pockets - 102736
Passenger side without stake pockets - 102737

Re: bedside pricing??? holy smoke...

The difference in 47- 53 and 54-55 is that the fenders mount differently, the rails on 53 are 45 degree to the bed and 54 is 90, 54-55.1 is only a two year fender. it changed again in 55.2 and again in 60. 47-53 55-59 sides are higher in production numbers than 54-55 so the cost is cheaper. Were I buying them I'd go with Mar-K and save $100 and get much better quality, plus made in USA

+1 for Mar-K even thought their website will send you screaming out the door. It always gives me the notion that they expect you to call in or mail in the order rather than ordering

dont they have to call you anyway? seems like I wanted to order something and their checkout process was to call you back to get your CC info. maybe that was brothers website, I dont know, I did a fair amount of screaming about it.

Re: bedside pricing??? holy smoke...

Dwcsr ..that's odd you would recommend Mar-k unless you dont carry 54-55 sides..I just got thru looking at hollister rd and see you have the 47-53 sides..do you have the 54-55 as well? And can yours be ordered without fender holes?.im thinking of raising my bed a inch or two with fenders staying close to stock location...I'm aware of the differences in the two but I'm not dedicated to one or the other although I do prefer the look of the 45` rails.

Inside of the bed is also different, I don't know the right name, but it has stamped / raised? sections.

I don't think you can go wrong with Mar-K. I had a minor problem with one of their tailgate links and they were all over it. They treated me like royalty.

We do not have 54-55, I'd have to check and see if we can get sides with no holes, but If you want top quality bed sides I would always recommend Mar-K. They may also sell with no holes if you asked them to

I always try to recommend the part you need and sometimes its not what we sell. I'd like to think that if I treat you fairly maybe you'll give us another look when you do need something we do have. This is one of those times and Mar-K is the company that may be best suited to help you.

I'll check on no hole side for you. I'm sure your not the first one that has requested this type of side

That is an option for those that have the tools and skill level.

A few sheets of 16 gage shouldn't be more than $100. Its the rolled edge that may be tough to get right. Or you may be able to use a 2" .065 wall tubing
($30) as the rolled edge and buy the aftermarket pockets ($100). And your time.

yep , have your local tin shop do the bends. use your old bedsides as a pattern. I spot welded the tubing to the bed sides clamping it on both sides with some thick angle iron. spot weld in random spot till you have a solid bead. mine didn't warp at all

Bsides Mar-K website being a little tough to navigate the website is under maintenance repair/changes right now. Just call them. Also I know they will make angle rail strips and bed wood rail strips without holes so will probably do same with bedsides for ya.

Re: bedside pricing??? holy smoke...

Dwcsr..thanks..that says a lot about your character when you recommend a competitor as being the go to guy.. will definitely being shopping your store in the future...
I'm not against building my own sides and am fairly decent at fab work.. my biggest concern would be the top rail warping from welding,, on that long of a run it would be easy for it to happen..and yeah I know spot welds are best. If I build my own I may go with 14 ga metal to..we have a good metal supplier close by that has a full service fab shop that I've used before..so the bends are no problem..

Re: bedside pricing??? holy smoke...

Mar-k's website being under construction may be part of my problem..I did find their bedsides ($380) and they do have them without fender holes..more crazy stuff..it costs $20 extra per side for them to NOT punch fender holes...go figure...ha ha..that puts their bedsides at $400 each without the fender holes. And they are16ga electro-galvanized

Re: bedside pricing??? holy smoke...

When I built the 48 truck, I bought the entire bed from Mack Products...http://www.mack-products.com

There were no fender mounting holes in the bed side. There were also no assembly instructions.

If there is a next one I will probably go with Mar-k. After I purchased something from Mar-K, the Secret Service called me. Apparently Mar-K was computer hacked and stored credit card information was stolen.
