very nice truck you have there. does it have really big tires in the back or is the backspacing on the wheels making it stick out?
your truck is very nice!

That is one SWEET truck. I wouldn't change a thing on it. I love that two-tone green one these trucks. It's fairly unusual and very nice looking IMO.

God Eye Barn9...
I missed the 396 badge...your right...I think in 1970 they switched to the 402 BB and badge. But it doesn't hurt a thing. That is one nice looking truck!!! :p |

Thanks for all the warm welcomes!
One of the reasons I bought it is because it was different. There are not many 1970's pickups around. Most original trucks from the Northeast were used (and abused) as trucks and are rusted out. I found this one in Ok and had it shipped up. So far it seems to be very straight and solid.

Yes, as far as I know it is a built 396 under the hood. I will be looking for the numbers on the block to determine exactly what it is. It is a fresh rebuild with roller rockers, cam, and gear drive. It has some power and sounds great!
No, it is not an original BB truck. The glovebox sticker lists 350, turbo hydra-matic, power steering, power brakes, air. On a related note, does anyone know why Chevy put 400 when the engine is a 402? 400 sounds like a small block to me! Yes, there is a headliner with the trim. Yes dinnut, the rear tires are that wide! I think they are 275's. Even with that much tire, it spins the wheels very easy. No pictures of the engine compartment yet. I will be detailing it in the next couple months. It is not bad right now (very clean) but just not up to my standards yet. Under the hood is factory undercoated which I think looks bad and will be removing. The radiator support will be getting some new paint. The headers are just starting to show a little surface rust. There is a large round chrome air cleaner that I would like to change to something else. Because of the tall valve covers (due to the roller rockers) the air compressor for the air was never put on. Does anyone have pictures of factory BB air compressor brackets and where can I buy a new compressor? I may have to build my own brackets because of the taller valve covers but would like to see how they go.

Barn9,
I have lots of pictures of the '55 but they must all be on my other computer. This is one I found on the Adirondack National website from their show. It is not a very good one and I will try and post a better picture once I get it from my other computer.

A couple questions:
What exactly is involved with the Cheyenne package? Is there any production number breakdowns for 1972? Where can you buy new a coolent resevoir? Does anyone have any estimate of its value (for insurance purposes)?

This may be another stupid question but what is the difference between a Cheyenne and a Cheyenne Super?
This truck does not have the glovebox emblem on it or any of the woodgrain.

396 to a 402BB
I'm not sure the reasons for the change but I believe in 1970 they bored out the 396 just enough to bump it up to a 402...Ok guys....Help me out...Why did they change from a 396BB to a 402BB? Also I believe the BB's were only available on the 2wd trucks in the 67-72 years. I claim to know just enough about these trucks to be dangerous. |

You are correct, no BB 4x4's were offered as an RPO, and only in 2wd from 68-72

BB
I've heard the same thing but yet to get documented evidence to verify that. This does make sense because this would be a far more economical move/fix if this situation you mentioned did happened.
Thanks for your feedback Regards, 70cst |
