Windshield washer clicking
Recently another board member posted that he ran vinegar through his "not working" windshield washer pump, and it fixed it. I figured I would try that.
When I press my button, I hear a loud click/thud as The pump tries to start. The wiper motor works fine. Since I've had the truck the pump hasn't worked. What might be causing this noise? And is it fixable? |

The pump is integrated into the wiper motor. The noise is the pump engaging. Very few of these pumps work because the rubber diaphragm in the pump rots out. Here is a good thread on the subject. (from 2010) http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s....php?p=4365093 LockDoc

Re: Windshield washer clicking
Thanks, that's what I was thinking. I know I've read a lot of them don't work. I have an extra that I was given, the motor works, so I'm going to disassemble it to "see how it works". I know you can put a remote pump on, but if possible, I'd like to have the original set up.

Re: Windshield washer clicking
Ok, so I disassembled my spare pump. I found that the pump intake was jam packed with junk. It took me to use my mechanics pick yo remove the gunk. Now, I ask this question. Is the reason these pumps don't work because of the diaphragms? (Mine are pliable with no cracks) or, is it because of debris built up at the intake? (It's a very small opening)

I guess it could be either or both. I have had a couple of them apart but it was just to see how they worked. I've had that problem all my life... Does your spare one work now? LockDoc

Re: Windshield washer clicking
I don't know for sure. I'm not sure how to hook up my jumper leads to it to get the pump to activate. Any ideas? I've got all the stuff I need to bench test it (hoses, power, container, ect)

Re: Windshield washer clicking
This is great info. How do I tell if the pump is auctioning as it should? Will it work automatically when I hook it up as the diagram says? Or do I have to do something else?

After the other wires are connected you have to ground the terminal that the Dark Blue wire is connected to. Check this thread out too. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=695112 The Brown connector in post #9 is the washer connection. LockDoc
