Four wheel 5 lug disk or 6 lug disk?

I am currently building a 64 long step bed with GSI front suspension and Porterbuilt rear suspension, full air ride. I will be using CPP stock height 71-72 replacement spindles in the front that require 1.25" thick rotors. I do not have a brake setup in the front but plan on disks and I will be using the factory 12 bolt rear end converted to rear disk. Since I do not have any brake components in the front I can go either 5 lug or 6 lug. I am going to replace the axle shafts in the rear, therefore I do not have to stick to the factory 6 lug pattern. The wheel I eventually will end up using can either be 5 lug or 6 lug, so wheel choice isn't driving the amount of lug studs.

Therefore if I went 5 lug I could use off the self front rotors, calipers, etc and use aftermarket conversion axle shafts in the rear that are 5 lug. I'm sure there are disk conversion kits for the rear or maybe somebody on the board sells the brackets and knows what calipers to use, etc.

If I went 6 lug I would have to buy aftermarket 6 lug rotors but what about calipers, etc? Could I still use off the self calipers? I could use replacement axle shafts for the rear and then a disk conversion kit.

I'd like to use off the shelf parts for the rear conversion because I think it will be cheaper than using a kit.

What are your thoughts?

I make and sell 5 different rear disc brake conversion brackets. All of my rear disc conversions use off the shelf parts you can purchase at your local auto parts supplier.There are 3 for the 5 x 5 which there are links to the for sale threads in my sig line.

Thanks for the info. I'm not quite ready to order yet. Still trying to figure out which route I want to take. Have a good vacation.

Which 5-lug bracket route of yours would you go with knowing I would like to use a 15" wheel and have an ebrake? Is the Eldorado/Rivera/Toronado caliper better or is the 3rd gen F-bodies caliper better from an e-brake standpoint?

From the e-brake standpoint, hands down the 3rd gen F-body (PBR calipers) are way better then the other POS system. The Eld/Riv/Tor caliper setup is one of the worst ones to come out and are VERY finicky. The PBR system works so much better and doesn't have the adjustment issues of the other system.
