62 GMC canadian paint code?

Hey guys,

Ive had my 62 gm for a while now in flat black and decided to paint it the original color or at least figure out what it is. Its Canadian built and has the number "5008" on the Vin tag on the firewall. Im hoping someone here can shed some light on what this mean.s

Are you sure it's not 508? Balboa Blue.

Well no not exactly. I do know the tag on the cowel says 5008. Tonight is going to look at the large tag on the kick panel to double check

Aero, all the Canadian trucks I've seen have 4 digit paint codes, for example my 62 was originally 503 light green but the code on the firewall is 5202

That does make sense in a way, when I bought the truck it was flat black but around the trim you could see some brown. almost gold colored. not sure what 5008 is though.

Well I checked the reference page I have bookmarked. Supposedly has the most complete list of paint codes for all manufacturers (so they say anyway)

the only thing I could find close was a 5108 listed as Omaha Orange.

They may be complete if they have all the U.S. codes but I'm pretty sure the Canadian codes are different too. My Woodland Green 65 had a 4 digit paint code on the firewall as well. I have a picture of it somewhere as that cab is long gone.

On my vin tag on the firewall their is what looks to be a light brown color. I know on some spots where their wasn't black paint, it looked to have almost a Fawn color. but as I understand their wasn't a fawn in 1962?

Take off something such as the heater box or cowl extensions and look on the backside

I took off the cowl last night and definatly had a light brown underneath. Darker then a adobe beige, but didn't look metallic.

you mentioned earlier that it looked brown almost gold, could it be "Sunrise Gold"?

I think that is a pretty good start. It's defiantly lighter. An old guy at a show I was at said its almost fawn.

In 62 fawn wasn't available as an exterior colour, the interior would have been fawn though

My Canadian built 64 has a paint code of 5006 and it is Cardinal Red according to my build sheet from the Heritage center in Oshawa

Has it been repainted the original colour? Because the tags that I have seen are metal finish

I purchased it from the original owner and according to him it is the original paint, but a lot can happen in 52 years

It was on a farm in Alberta for all of it's life.
