roof rack ideas?

I want to haul kayaks with my 74 Blazer and would like to use yakima type cradles.
What have you guys done for roof racks? I'm not sure the original type would work with "modern" Yakima type accessories?
Anybody mounted a later style blazer or whatever rack? Pictures? Thanks

I've actually been looking into the seasucker suction cup clamps. A buddy of mine said they are incredibly strong. Keep us up to date on what you do. Thx!

I think I'm going to go with a Yakima system like would be used for a pickup shell.
They have one that has 54" or 60" tracks and with their silver crossbar I think it will look good and be sturdy enough to carry Kayaks.

Can you post a link to the one you're looking at? Wondering how it will attach?

Don't know how to do a link but google Yakima and look at their system for fiberglass-tracks. The bottom rails or "tracks" are 54" or 60" and have several capnuts that attach them so it should distribute the weight well and be sturdy.
The crossbars will slide back and forth on them. I think with a silver crossbar that they will look good on the Blazer. Not cheap though....

Okay gotcha. I'm definitely not looking to drill into my top. But would love to see pics when you've got it done. Thx.

Hickey roof rack? There's one on eBay. I love con-ferr. They gutter mount but I've seen exoskeleton type bars that mount under top on rail then top mounted. If that makes sense

Re: roof rack ideas?

If I do a roof rack on my burb, I am going to make it a full exo cage. Everything I have read indicates that holes drilled into roofs WILL eventually leak . .

I have a similar rack on my fiberglass camper shell for my "modern" pickup. It doesn't leak.
If a sealer is put on the bolts I don't think leaking is a problem...?

Re: roof rack ideas?

A friend told me that over time the sealer will dry out and crack, cause a leak.

I am probably being paranoid about it. But I have decided that if I want a roof rack, it will need to be a full exo cage because I don't want to drill 10-20 holes in my roof. . .
