Door hinge bushing repair?
Hey all,
How many of you have replaced your door hinge bushings and/or pins? Are they a pain like they were when I replaced door hinge pins on my old 50 Ford F-3? Those were a bear and ended up drilling and driving them out. |

Re: Door hinge bushing repair?
Really easy, just tapped out rod and set the new bushing in, put a cheap extension through hole then a cheap socket the size of the diameter of bushing and tapped them in

Re: Door hinge bushing repair?
Did you guys just use a Dorman kit from local auto store? Or do I need to make a special order from a website site?

Re: Door hinge bushing repair?
Thanks for the info Rojo, finally something I dont need to buy online.
Padresag, I haven't taken the pins out yet, are they typically salvageable? The kits I've seen come with pins and bushings so that's what I planned on using. |

Yup the pins are fine. Surprised to see the OE bushings are plastic .

Re: Door hinge bushing repair?
Well just for anyone reading this post, I'll save you a trip to the parts store, that package in the picture is not the correct PN. 15-14548 is way too big, 15-14550 is closer but still sloppy. If anybody could post a Dorman PN that would be appreciated because the Dorman site doesn't list door hinge bushings for a '64 c10.
Now I'm wondering if the hinges have been messed with before but everything looks original. Pin OD: 0.339 Plastic OEM Bushing ID: 0.339 OD: 0.411 Last edited by dracko; 12-12-2016 at 03:45 PM. |

Re: Door hinge bushing repair?
Thanks for posting that. Based on that chart, the closest would be 14550, but when I test fit it on pin there was more wiggle than I thought would be acceptable. Would the bushing tighten up when pressed into the hinge? the The pins are 21/64" and the bushing OD is 13/32"

Re: Door hinge bushing repair?
are you measuring with a ruler?
the bushing may tighten a little you would have to try it I would measure with a good vernier. that 13/32 may be 10mm. ron |

Re: Door hinge bushing repair?
Measuring with a micrometer. I installed a set of the 14550 and the fit is decent. I was expecting a friction fit with zero play but I guess this isn't a rolls royce I'm working on eitherx

Re: Door hinge bushing repair?
The fit is too sloppy. Gonna need to find which Dorman pin/bushing kit will work.
The closest one is 38391 but the pin is 1/2" too short. The site doesn't list a kit for 60-66 so if you guys can recall what PN works I'd appreciate it. |

Dracko:
Dorman no. 38375 is the part number that I wrote down some time ago for this pin/bushing. Hope that helps. Regards, Steve New Orleans |

Dracko:
Looks like 38375 is bushings, but no pin. Here are the measurements: Door Hinge Bushings - .345 In. Id X .420 In. Od X .305 In. Height Application Summary: GENERAL MOTORS 1995-60 Regards, Steve New Orleans |

Re: Door hinge bushing repair?
Thanks Steve, I was hoping to do the pins too because the old ones are only .325 OD. But I should be able to find pins for those bushings.

Re: Door hinge bushing repair?
The WWW.TruckandCarShop.com sells the pins and bushings as a set per door for $7.00.
Bad news is the bushing only set for rear clam shells is $35.00 per door. |

perhaps if he wants a little tighter fit maybe a slight knurling on the pins. I doubt that they were designed with a .002 or .003" pit as they would more than likely sieze up due to lack of lubrication. they should be given a drop of light oil every once in a while ron |

Re: Door hinge bushing repair?
Your right Ron, I popped a Dorman package open at Can Tire just to see what kind of play the prepackaged pins/bushings had and it's the same as my original pins with new bushings. So I'll just use them and carry on. Thanks for all the help guys, hate to waste everyone's time.
