Red face a/c help 73 gmc p/u

i have a question about the fan cage hole on the firewall. i have a wider fan cage bought from autozone attached on my new a/c/ heater motor. Do i have to make the whole larger on the firewall. i know the motor gets attached to the evap housing. Is the old hole opening now good for air flow? thanks for any help. I am ready to install the evaporator , fan motor and housing to wall. frank 73 gmc 350 rv old granny 4 spd 3/4 ton

IIRC, the fan will not go straight in. you have to tilt and "tuck" it in.

RATSKIN, the hole opening is 5" round. the fan cage is bigger. there is not much room inside the hole for the cage to spin. When i attach the fan motor and cage to the housing , there is clearance for the fan to spin inside the housing. I can make the hole bigger, if necessary. Another scenario to buy a narrower cage. thanks frank

Sounds like the fan they sold you is the wrong one for the heater housing.
Take it back and tell em you want one that fits.

Thanks for all your help. i bought a shorter motor wheel. this should circulate the air through the housing , the passenger side damper and the windshield cowl. frank HAPPY HOLIDAYS
