Re: Anyone here daily drive a completely stock mid 80's C10?

I have had one "square" or another actively insured since 1983. In my opinion, they are great daily drivers. I commute 70 miles a day to work, and if you get the right engine /trans/diff combination, they can be fairly economical. I personally have a soft spot for the mid eighties 6.2 diesels. Although a little gutless..... they are cheap to run. Had an 85 2WD 6.2 / 700R4/ 3:08 diff and it would consistently make 25-28 MPG on the highway. Also had an 86 with a 4.3 V6 and a four speed standard that was very good on gas.
Nice ride, easy /cheap to repair.

Re: Anyone here daily drive a completely stock mid 80's C10?

When I lived in PA (6 years ago) if you saw a squarebody truck, chances are it was a weekend toy or headed for the local car show.

Now that I'm in NC, I see them in use as daily drivers every time I hit the road. They just aren't the rare site that they are up North. Around here people are still working the old girls. I bet I see 6 a day.

And because I live in the country, the closer I get to home, the more I see.

Gotta agree with Malo on this one: PS, PB, AC, 20 mpg, 3.73 gears with OD. The steering effort and brake pedal travel/feel were perfect for me. Heater controls were easy to use (not like in my '04, where I almost have to pull of the road to make an adjustment).

It was/is the most comfortable vehicle I own, even compared to all the new iron.

I also agree
We have a 2001 Tahoe and I hate it, it's not comfortable, handles like a boat, and gets pretty lousy mileage. Years ago I daily drove my 2wd 80 RCSB with a 305/TH350c. Drove it in the winter also. It was very fun and comfortable. I now have a company van, 2004 GMC Savanna 3500 extended. Most days I wish I could be commuting in my squarebody crew cab instead...
