New carpet

Maybe it's asked before...

I want to make my own carpet but I want to know how the carpet is staying in its place under the dash?
What have you done to keep it there?

I really don't want to glue it in and want to know if there is any other way then to screw through the sheet metal.

What options are there?

I have used sound deadener, its in already, then I want a (sound)padding and then the carpet.

Let's hear and see?

two sided tape. the wide stuff. velcro with sticky back. wide against the floor then a skinny piece on the carpet, easier to get out if you need to without removing the piece stuck to the floor. tuck it under the console and the kick panels to assist with keeping it in place (assuming you have those items)

I don't have a console, and the kickpanels are besides the floor in the A-pillar.
But I get it to work somehow

on the two I did, I didnt need anything special to hold it. on the 47 GMC I used the factory rubber mat holders which are part of the floor and look like roofing nails that arent pounded all the way in. I slit the carpet and slipped it over them.



on the 49, I used heavy jute padding under the carpet so the jute was able to be secured like that but carpet couldnt get to the holder. it didnt matter, the friction of the jute on the carpet backing held it up just fine.



I think as long as you use automotive carpet it will be fine.

I still have those pins in it, but they are too small.
I want two layers, one sounddeadener, is about 5/16" and then carpet, household carpet..
The first layer can be taped, the carpet itself have to be thought over.
That carpet has the jute back, maybe it will "stick" to the first layer.

I used commercial grade office loop carpet with synthetic back over bubble type sound/heat insulation. Double stick carpet tape at edges to keep it in place. I made mats of the same material for the traffic areas. Will add "weather tech" type rubber mats for DD use.

I've got the sticky insulator in, over this goes the sound deadener they use in apartments under wooden or laminate floors, over that I put normal carpet.
Should be a lot quiter then inside the cab....

Did you sew the edges of the carpet yourself?
