LS/4L80E swap mounts.
Hi guys, I am in the middle of acquiring all the parts I need to do an LS/4L80E swap in my 68. I am having a hard time deciding which mounts to go with and was hoping a few guys that have used some of these, will chime in with their experience with them.
The ones I've looked at so far are: Early Classics Gen3 mounting kit: $219 Early Classics 4L80E cross member: $89 Dirty Dingo slider mounts: $162 (with new engine side mount) http://www.dirtydingo.com/shop/index.php?cPath=359_360 DD doesnt seem to offer a trans cross member at this time. Has anyone used either of these? How did you like them? Is there any other companies offering swap mounts/cross member for this combination that I have missed? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

Re: LS/4L80E swap mounts.
I haven't done an LS/4L80E swap, but I've done them individually (4L80E into my truck, LS3 into my Camaro) and in neither case did I need to change the rear crossmember.
In fact I just used el-cheapo eBay LS engine mount adapters and everything worked out fine for me, but you might be facing different challenges. Short version is don't rush out to replace the crossmember until you're confident you really need to.

Re: LS/4L80E swap mounts.
What trans mount did you end up using? Did you need to do any modifications to the stock cross memeber to get the 4l80E to bolt up?
Do you happen to have a link to what engine mounts you used? I would prefer not to use solid engine mounts, so I was looking into kits that use some sort of stock v8 engine mount and a conversion plate to adapt it to the LS. This is my first "vintage" vehicle, so this is all a learning experience for me |

running a 5.3 on stock towers and DD sliders hooked to a 4L80e and it's sitting on a CPP crossmember. not expensive and works like a charm

Re: LS/4L80E swap mounts.
I used the CPP engine mounts and towers. They clear headers really well and look nice.
Stock crossmember, just relocated. I did need to shorted my driveshaft.

Re: LS/4L80E swap mounts.
I have seen several builds that use stock mounts with the ICT adapters.

I used the DD sliders in my 68 suburban slid the engine and transmission around till the stock transmission crossmember lined up with factory holes.

Re: LS/4L80E swap mounts.
It's been a while but if I remember correctly I used my TH400 mount but turned it around backwards. Don't take that to the bank, but that's how I remember it... Stock crossmember in stock location.

Re: LS/4L80E swap mounts.
Thanks guys for all the suggestions. I just purchased an 84 parts truck that I am planning on swapping the front cross member, disc brakes and sway bar from. What would be needed to adapt the LS to the new 84 cross member?

Re: LS/4L80E swap mounts.
I'm going to start this same process in just a few days when my dropout LS gets here. Therefore....
