Horn Button Issue
I'm working on a 1950 Chevrolet 3100 for a friend. It's been converted to a 12 volt so I know I need a relay and a 12 volt capable horn. I pulled the center cap off of the steering wheel and found that the horn contact was depressed due to the tightening of the steering wheel nut. Am I missing a part? What do I need to do to correct this?

I'd have to go out and take the horn apart on the wheel in the 51 cab I have sitting out in the yard and take photos just to figure it out. I've had them apart and back together plenty of times but forget how they actually work.
I am pretty sure that the horn button grounds the circuit in the horn relay and that triggers the horn.

no I go back to what I said before, haha sorry for the multiple edits. the nut goes under that piece and you need a second attachment for that second piece.

it occured to me that I have a 49 cab in the back yard.
IMG_6842 by Joe Doh, on Flickr so I went and tried the operation,. it looks to me that the only way you can compress the horn plate so its on all the time is to either not have enough travel on the brass contact that is seen sticking up, or the hole in your horn back plate isnt big enough and that back plate is pushing up to the front plate.

did you check that brass button? does it push down? it should be spring loaded.
it also looks like your steering wheel isnt seated all the way down but that shouldnt affect anything except if the brass button doesnt push down.
