LS Swap engine mount purches
I am in the middle of a LS swap. One of the upgrade is a No Limit Engineering steering. It utilizes a forward hole on the frame where the current engine perch sits. I am using the transdapt engine swap mounts. Which location for the perch is correct? Lots of info out there but nothing definitive.
This? Or this? The original location of the perches was the front holes and held a 283 4spd. Thanks No going to waste an opportunity to show it off... Ignore the boc full of cardboard... we just moved. |

Re: LS Swap engine mount purches
I would contact transdapt. They are so many variations. The mounts i bought only used the front holes. The rear hole sets everything really far back. Now, with all the slider mounts being made, most are using the front holes and you can slide it back as needed. Really the manufacturer has to give you the intended position to have a starting point.

Also, with that factory perch hanging off in the rear hole, I wouldn't think that would be correct either. You might could find perches that utilize the rear hole and slide forward with slider engine mounts.

Re: LS Swap engine mount purches
POL has tubular perches that I have used and work well. They will work in forward or rear holes.

Re: LS Swap engine mount purches
I used the adapter plates from Speed Engineering and set the stock perches in the rear holes on the frame.

Re: LS Swap engine mount purches
Thanks guys. This is helpful. The No Limit rack and pinion install instructions says to drill out the front hole to 7/8" to allow the steering shaft and bearing mount to pass through the frame. Most swap kits like the Transdapt, Dirty Dingo, CPP and so on utilize the SBC perches. It looks like but those Speed Engineering ones may work. The Transdapt folks says that the "SB V8 factory perches use the front holes while the inline 6 and BB V8 perches use the back holes". Now... return the Transdapt kit and buy Speed engineering or modify existing perches...

Re: LS Swap engine mount purches
This is/was the issue. The universal joint and intermediate shaft goes directly through the front hole on the top of the frame. I am currently modifying the perch.
Was a pretty easy install. quite a bit of frame modification/notching. I feel No limit really down plays this but I am very happy with it. |

Re: LS Swap engine mount purches
Does the NL kit utilise the Mustang II rack (or an aftermarket version of the same dimensions)?
Edit: Just found the answer to my own question in another thread. "The racks start out as late model chevy truck (like 2000-2006 1/2 ton 2WD) We cut off the OE passenger side mount, and rotate the passenger side housing 180*. To fit up with the rotated housing, the formed pressure hard lines are custom made to fit. All of the consumable parts, boots, seals.... are from the 2000+chev 1/2T " Sorry for interrupting your thread. Last edited by Russ.W.; 09-01-2017 at 11:38 PM. |

Re: LS Swap engine mount purches
Mount the engine in the rearward 6-cylinder location for better weight distribution. Problem solved......at least until you have to redrill for the trans crossmember.

Re: LS Swap engine mount purches
I got the motor in... kind of. I find out that you HAVE to use the Transdapt oil pan with these mounts... lame. The stock pan is hitting the front cross member. Problem solved by moving the motor back 2" and everything falls into place. I am returning the mounts and just ordered Dirty Dingo mounts. Thanks for all the suggestions and pictures!

Re: LS Swap engine mount purches
I personally like the POL perches. They'll work in either position and use the more common style motor mounts, and make a great upgrade to go with the DD sliders. DO NOT GET THE RUBBER MOUNTS!!! THEY WILL BREAK!!!
