Sideboard Ideas for ADs/ USAF Emblem chosen - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Nearing completion of the USAF 54 flightline truck. Researched this forum and the web for sideboard ideas. Have a local woodworker who is expert in stuff made from local OR myrtlewood. The idea is create sideboards which go with the ad design and lazer engrave them with names of the Pilots and WSO KIA in F-111a during Constant Guard 1972-73. Any pics and suggestions welcome.

My poll on a Vietnam Vets site overwhelmingly chose the following circle wing/star design for each door:

The shield was the runner up

The shield is good but not as cool as the "hap arnold" wings in circle. Was a 20 to 2 vote among vets for the latter.

Being an Army vet I am not well versed in Airforce unit insignias or patches.

What I am finding is that both the patch and the shield seem to be for stateside units. The shield being for HQ US Air Force and the round patch is a stateside HQ patch that dates from WWII though Vietnam at least.
Are these the correct patches/emblems to honor the people you are wanting to honor?

I don't know about the Air Force but for Army and Navy combat vets the patch or emblem of the unit or ship you served with/on is a part of your Personal history.

I fully understand. I'll admit it incorrect for many reasons but it gets the idea across and has always been my personal favorite. Very positive response from USAF vets of all ages. I

OK that should work then. I just figured that the patch for the command that was involved in that campaign might be more appropriate.

At a first glance, I dig the round emblem. But, actually the shield has grown on me, may be more appropriate for what you are doing.

I can see it on the door or even on a decorative sideboard. Save the round one for a T shirt.

My ongoing truck projects: 48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six. 71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant. 77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.
