timeless look and won't go out of style

I was watching a restoration show the other day and they kept on saying that they were going to give a vehicle a timeless look and get rid of the 90's look. They immediately preceded to give the truck some modifications that will quickly go out of style. I am all for making custom modifications to cars and trucks and hate to leave anything stock, but the only look in my opinion that will be close to timeless is restoring it back to original. That is the only way that in 10 years someone will not say that they have to get rid of that old 2010's style. The same holds true to home remodeling.

Yep, I couldn't agree more. It's funny how many trends have come and gone. I still have "sunroof regret" on a panel truck of mine. Luckily I saved the metal piece that got cut out.

I'm in a predicament like this. Several years ago I purchase a set of 20" chrome aluminum Boss wheels. Now, I almost feel like I need to go to smaller wheel, maybe steel and go back to the fat tire look. But since I paid good money for these I don't want to go through the hassle of trying to sell these wheels and get as much as I can for them.

The truck should be done in a few months. I think I will stay with the 20's until I get some use out of them and then maybe sell them. At least I will know what it's like to have big wheels. I can then make a final decision after that.

Your look is timeless. That style wheel will be a never tiring look for this series truck.
In 1986 , I went with the original 16" steel wheels and widened them for a more contemporary look with the stock hubcaps. Closer to original although obviously not.. Now there are a few things on the truck I wish I had not done. Getting older , appreciate the original stock trucks and how hard it is to find one.

About 25 years ago a local painter had a 62 step side that was flat black. That was a tough looking truck then and it definately influenced me as a teenager and sealed my interest in these trucks. I rarely see these trucks out period, but I hear on the internet flat black trucks are played out and everyone has one. I may be wrong but I don't see it as a recent trend that's about to dry up.

IMO, the look of cru zn 29's '65 ( post # 5 ) is the definition of timeless. 52 years later, it still looks just as inspirational as it did when it hit the streets in '65. Kind of like listening to music from the mid 60's, it all still sounds good today. No need to alter the lyrics or beat of the Rolling Stones from '65!

I had mine near 20 years in grey primer. Red was 70s80s black primer is where flat comes from for ever.
Speed and chrome timeless. Yes you black socks and flp flops in the midle summer desert.
All my trucks rolled in delaputated (****y) paint or primer.
Use to be a class at shows for us "under construction" till smart azz rollef in with new truck bags and sandded down for primer. Remember 3 mods for stock 5 for mild 7+ wild?
I got mine for a $200 trade. Could not give away in 2000, yet I always had this body but that torrsion bar was a no. Drove the 283 to5500rpm before valves float. 3 speed good til had to drive home reverse, small window. And peep mirors

In the early 80's it was totally stylin' to install a window in your tailgate. If you acid etched a graffic into that window you were the schnizzle. When I was a bmx bike punk, I was envious of a yellow square body stepper with one of those tailgate windows. The guy also had the wings from the Journey album etched into the back cab glass. It wore yellow paint, with fat true spokes and T/A white letters. And you know what? That guy always had a babe riding in the center of the bench seat too. Edit: I never admitted to being envious, I always had to say it sucked so as not to blow it with my bike punk buddies.

This is an interesting point. I'd submit that even today people are hesitant to buy a slammed chassis truck for the simple, and understandable reason that they may not know the builder and the whether or not the work was quality (primarily talking C-notch level of slamming, etc). I'm no rocket scientist on slammed and bagged chassis, some folks are - and for them, they will find deals if they are wanting to do that to their next truck - but the average buyer won't know what he's looking at/what to look for, and, more importantly, how to undo it or if it's even undoable - if a resto is what the buyer wants to do. So, hot-rodded truck of the 60's-80's are just kinda lipstick with stock underpinnings for the most part that could still be returned to bone stock once the lipstick was removed, repainted, tweed removed, etc. But I think a C-notch truck will have to remain a C-notch truck forever, in MOST cases, not all.

Now don't get me wrong, I like the look, and I wouldn't mind lowering one myself - but I'd be willing to bet I'm not alone in the mindset that I'd STILL be looking for a stock truck that "I" could lower, not one that someone else has already slammed - so I could be sure it was "done right" - ha, as if I could do it better than the seller... But, that's how I am. I STRUGGLED with whether or not to drop my 66 swb, and never did, because I felt like it was just too original. And I liked it that way anyway. But back to 63burb's point - eventually, the pool of trucks easily returnable to stock condition will dry up and that will be a sad day, for me anyway.

There, I managed to shorten burb's 1 sentence to 3 paragraphs... Sorry. I thought it was an interesting point. It's part of what drives us all to play horde and seek with the originals, always keeping our eyes peeled for that original gem... we tend to always think we're finding what may be the last one! Remember when the sky high minis on 35s was cool? Then the lower trucks came in and everyone was droping them on the ground. Spent many hours in shop class fixin tickets for "too low" and "too high" flipping axles. But then again trucks with notches were being bought and made pre-runners. Being out in desert or show with huge lifts and a notch. I know a truck I almost bought was a show stopper on the ground blew by me, in its 90s paint, on a 8" lift and 37" tires. The truck seen was small, we knew people by their trucks. Even my simple White with grey 81. The suspentions we use now are way better than a wrecking yard find.

I think I'd prefer one restored original over any flat black or fauxtina, but a plain Jane with still having the original paint that I could use as a truck and not worry about scratching or dinging up would be my first pick.
