painting or dying seatbelts
Has anyone had any experience painting or dying your seatbelts. I have brown belts and need black ones. Any suggestions?
Thanks, Tom |

I died mine in the washing machine with that RIT dye...looked great for a couple years, but the blue is starting to show through.
Also make sure you remember which is drivers and which is passengers, if you get them flip flopped, the buckle will be in an aquard spot on your gut and kinda hurt a little. |

I haven't but don't see why not. Can dye any color to black. We used to dye white nylon (plastic) Molex connectors black, by soaking them in a bucket of rit dye for a couple days. They came out nice black connectors.

Sell me your brown belts, and then buy yourself some new black belts.

Started to do the dye thing myself but did research on the internet and found restoration sites that claimed dyes weaken the fabric and are illegal to do in some states. Can't imagine painting them! For mine I just put the word out to my buddies to be on the lookout for a black set of belts and they ran across a set a couple weeks later(for free!). Bye!

RIT carpet dye in a soup pan of hot water on the stove. Works well, have done it several times.

What about the plastic housing around the retractor also the visors and dash? Anyone try to paint them? I have red ones, but need black ones...just wondered if painting would work and last. thanks in advance for any advice.

They can be painted with interior vinyl paint, but I mentioned the molex connectors, I wonder if the seat belt cover will take the dye if you leave it in long enough.

Please "SELL ME YOUR BROWN BELTS". Don't dye them. I've been looking for some for quite some time. No one sells them aftermarket. Wish I had some black belts, I'd trade ya.
