air conditioning and fuel tanks
I have read thru some great threads and have gained a ton of knowledge, sometimes too much, on swapping to a 4.8 lq4 engine. I'm sorry if i have overlooked a thread on this. My 69 c10 is an ac cab truck and the 4.8 i am installing has a brand new ac compressor that i would like to reuse. I'm not in a position to put a retro system in and am wondering if anybody has used the ac pump from a ls to work with the 69 ac box. The ac worked great before i removed the 350 and i have capped all the lines and fittings so no moisture would enter.
Also I want to move the gas tank under the bed between frame but have the fuel fill come out behind license plate like on my 70 chevelle, and install a flip down plate. Any body make some suggestions with sender and intake fuel pump? Thank you in advance. |

There are a few companies who make the 69 Camaro fuel tank with an in-tank pump for fuel injection. There are some forum members who have used them and the inlet would be behind the license plate.

As for the A/C, I have read too many threads to recall which one was best. There are a lot of people who try to use a new compressor with an old system. But, the best that I have seen was a build that used all of the newer parts on the old truck. You will have to rebuild the evaporator core box to make it bigger. But, it should be worth it. Sorry I can't be of more help. I believe it in the LS build threads.

Also, Vintage Air if your replacing your AC. But if your keeping what you have, why not just use the existing and upgrade the Freon?!

Trying to keep on a budget. There was a guy who messaged me and said he used a 87 blazer tank, gm15c, with a 87 blazer sending unit that looks like it has correct ohms,0 to 90, but had a aero pump that was crazy expensive. Does anybody know of this ep381 a.c. fuel pump will fit in said sending unit? Any mods? Thanks

Prior to my Boyd tank I ran the 87 blazer tank. The EP381 will work with it, but the filler won’t go through the license plate.

I had a bed floor fill. I cut the curved neck off and welded on a straight neck with a fill cap.

I remember years ago when cars had the Flip down license plate to put gas in your car especially the ones taking off from the light and spewing gas all the way across the intersection but of course gas was only about $.35 a gallon

I use the stock 5.3 compressor on my 87. The evaporators are similar size, also am using the stock condensor.

The ls pump is going to be 134a so you'll have to convert the guts of your system to that. Many report the results are not that great so depending on your A/C performance expectations, you may want to do some research before taking the plunge. Check the cost of just the VA under-dash unit and controls since you have everything else. Might not be too bad compared to what it would cost to convert what you have now.
