1966 Chevy newbie
Hi y’all! I just inherited a cream colored 1966 Chevy stepside short bed truck. It is in mostly original condition and has been barn stored, but is nonetheless in shabby condition. (Everything seems to work, but the upholstery in the cab is pretty chewed up in the middle from a mouse who made it his home after my dad passed.)
I am a complete beginner but dream of bringing it back to life as a way of processing losing my Dad and in honor of him. Thought this board might be a good starting place. I already ordered the 500 pg manual. What other words of wisdom do you have for me before I launch into this adventure? Also, how hard will it be to replace that seat? Thanks and look forward to getting to know you all! Last edited by Katchi; 01-16-2018 at 01:05 PM. |

Replacing the seat (or just the upholstery) is easy.
Here's my advice: don't plan for a major restoration right away. Get it running, and get it safe. Fuel, brakes, hoses, suspension, steering, electrical. That way, you don't get overwhelmed. Small projects that take one weekend day or a couple of evenings. You will be encouraged to continue. You will grow to appreciate the character that your truck has. They're built to work. |

Sounds like a good project, Katchi. I'm a bit new at this sort of thing too but enjoying it by focussing on small elements of the build at a time and having small successes along the way. Which 500pp manual did you buy?

Re: 1966 Chevy newbie
What broke on it that caused it to get put in the barn?

Re: 1966 Chevy newbie
Yep, small goals one by one.. and enjoy the journey. Definitely would love to see how she looks! Like someone said up top, the upholstery is easy. 6 bolts to take the seat out..helps to have a helping hand but I lifted mine out by myself no prob. Brothers Trucks sells replacement vinyl that looks extremely nice. My seat was also chewed up a little bit, but I just put some new upholstery on and am as happy as can be with it. Its amazing how just a new seat really cleans up the truck.
