Seat belt cleaning ideas
Looking to clean my seat belts before reinstalling them in my 84.
Thinking of a soak/scrubbing in vinegar water. Anyone use or know of a better way? Thanks |

Re: Seat belt cleaning ideas
Use ammonia and a little splash of dishsoap in hot water mixed well. Get the lemon scented stuff and something like 1:4 or 1:3 ammonia/water.
Rinse well

Re: Seat belt cleaning ideas
I have cleaned about 5 sets of seatbelts. Pull the belt completely out from the retractor and clamp the belt, so it won't retract back in. That way you are getting all the belt exposed to clean. I have sprayed them down with Simple Green or any other good spray cleaner. An encyme cleaner works good too. Lay them in hot soapy water, then you can start scrubbing with a brush. Rinse them really good and then let them hang to dry.

Re: Seat belt cleaning ideas
Here's another method when leaving the belts in the car. I have also done this method, since I detail cars.

Re: Seat belt cleaning ideas
My dad used simple green in a bucket of warm water with a stiff brush. We kept them extracted like TK said, hung them to dry for a few days.

Re: Seat belt cleaning ideas
If you only us a soft brush and Dawn soap there shouldn’t be any damage.
Dollar Tree store sells a soft bristle green brush in the kitchen section.

Re: Seat belt cleaning ideas
It could be from the belts not getting rinsed of all the cleaner. Once the belts dry with cleaner residue left over, they will feel funky.

Re: Seat belt cleaning ideas
I have sprayed them with shout, and then put them in a pillow case and put them in the washing machine. Take them out and hang them up to dry. It worked well on the seat belts in my oldsmobile when i built it.
