Hood sponge replacement - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have searched and found nothing on the steps on replacing the missing hood sponge on the 1971 c10 trucks. Would like to know what to use to carefully install kit without damaging freshly painted hood. Thought of using a few cedar shakes to open up the area to slid them in? I have the kit so i don't want to here about spray foam. Thanks in advance

I went to Home Depot and bought a package of wooden shims to install pre-hung doors. These worked pretty well and did not scratch my paint.
Now if anyone has a good tip to glue the sponge in place once they are in between the hood and the brace.....
