Kickdown Cable

As title states it seems as I'm working out one problem I find another. In the below picture you can see it seems someone or PO cut my kickdown cable and I've just realized why sometimes it doesn't down shift....

As I've never installed one and searched through the forums it seems a simple process. Where would you guys recommend getting one? Do you guys have pics of the full setup on where it connects to on the carb? (I'm a visual person and most descriptions are not descriptive enough) I have a 350/th350 and a 4bbl quad carb

That's what she said! Please post a pic of your carburetor, so that we can see what is upstairs. There should be a bracket for the cable to the left and to the back of (as it would appear when sitting at the steering wheel) the carburetor. You can install a new cable without pulling the pan, but all that horse hair (or whatever that is) has to be gone, or you'll get it in the trans oil pan.

Since all we have is one image to see, sounds like you need to drop the pan, replace the cable, get a stand alone cable bracket that bolts to the two rear manifold bolts or the left rear bolt on the carb.

Thanks demian and steeve, I'll try and find a set and install em. Might take some time but will update along the way.

Luckily the cable was still connected in the cut off portion so I didn't have to drop the pan, which made the install easier. The hardest part was getting the bolt back into the hole due to the weird angle it's at and my large hands getting in the way.




Directions were simple enough for adjustment, which i won't find out if it good or not till I drive it next time. Thanks again for the help.

Yeah, I know about big mitts in that small space.

I can't tell from the pic you posted if you have the necessary bracket. If it isn't hooked up right, it won't kill a 350 like it would a 200(R4) or a 700(4R), but go easy until we see a good pic. Or go on youtube and look up how to adjust a 350 turbohydramatic detent cable.

Thanks for the reply, here are more pictures of the bracket. It's a Lokar kickdown cable and everything seem to fit perfectly. Granted the initial adjustment of length seemed to be too easy to be true, but I've never had to deal with a kickdown cable before. The bracket connects to the manifold

Get that booster hose off of your throttle linkage.

And the adjustment is:

1. Lift up the lock on the cable end on the back side of the bracket.
2. Hold throttle in wide open throttle position.
3. While holding, lock the cable back down.
4. Happy Motoring.

I'll make sure the tube isn't touching. Alright the same steps you mentioned were the same as I had done. Thanks for clarifying.
