Replacing the gas tank, Whats the deal with the filler neck?
Took out a large aftermarket fuel tank. A friend gave me his old stock gas tank but he had removed the filler neck to use on his new tank.
Is there no company that makes a replacement tank with the correct filler neck? I see on the box that the tank is supposed to fit blazer and suburban, etc. I know I can take my old tank to a shop and have them weld on a filler neck, but between the floor and the frame rail it looks really tight and the welder will need to get the angle right. Any tricks to helping the welder get the filler aligned and can I just buy a correct tank ready to go? |

Found a kit on the Brothers website. Has anybody tried this kit?

on blazers you need the neck off the old tank put on the new one. Otherwise you have to make something with the correct bend to get past the frame. Some use marine or hydraulic hose so it wont collapse. Others have use exhaust pieces. The new tank is a fit all for blazers, suburbans, and people wanting to relocate the tank on their pickup

I will get it cut off and blasted this week and get more pictures. I'm not going to mopar but I have a friend that will probably go if you want to go that route.

Re: Replacing the gas tank, Whats the deal with the filler neck?
My '70 had a replacement tank...someone had just crammed a hose in and it took forever to fill because the hose was almost fully collapsed..
I bought a couple of pre-formed 45º fuel hoses and a coupler to make it come out in the correct location... I had an old tank with the filler neck but my tank was full of gas and I didn't want to go through all the hassle to prep it for soldering... It works perfectly fine now
