A/C in a 63 with a l6
I'm looking into installing an AC unit in my 63 but all the aftermarket stuff recommends a v8. Anybody got any words of wisdom other than replacing the motor?

Buy an AC Bracket for a 6 cylinder. The rest of the install is the same.

VA and OAP have brackets for what ever engine, call them.

The bracket for the original cigar type compressor is the same stamped steel version as the passenger car line. Hard to find . I found one for my 63 after many yeats of looking. Wish you better luck if you head that way. And then they'res the pulleys.

Re: A/C in a 63 with a l6
I installed a Vintage Air unit in my six cylinder 63 C10. When I ordered the unit I specified vehicle and engine and the unit includes the proper bracket and everything needed for installation except pulley. I think I got the dual groove pulley from Speedway. The only other thing I added was a larger aluminum radiator as I thought the original in the truck was a little small.
Unit works great and no problems with it working with the six cylinder. In Mississippi, cold air is required for my better half to cruise with me. |

Great looking set up. What pulley did you use on the crank?

Msgt,
I too highly recommend Vintage Air, and for you to call Vintage Air. The Davis setup is probably easy and straightforward, but doesn't look OEM or Custom if you care about the look too. I am using an old Vintage Air bracket for a Sanden compressor, but I don't see it in their online catalog anymore--but you can't trust that--call them! I do see the plate steel brackets to weld up your own, they are part # 151015 -Universal fabricator’s bracket for Sanden compressor Railroader, do you have the part number for your bracket?

This is my setup using a Sanden and modified Vintage Air bracket. I had to cut and weld to adjust a little for belt alignment. I am a 292 running a 3 groove harmonic balancer. I fabbed a mount for the alternator and GM II power steering pump low on the drivers side.
