A survivor in Germany, 1961 Pickup and a lot of questions.
Hello community,
I bought a 1961 Pick up here in Germany and need some informations and his name will be Paul, cause he survived this movie. Paul (is a 2011 science-fiction road-comedy film) It will arrive at this weekend. What I know is the vin and here is the first question vin: 1C154L113981 on the last title it is shown as a model 1960 but the vin says 61. That's maybe common but whats about the L= Los Angeles assembly plant code? Can anybody explain that? I can't find that L in any vin decoder. Here are some pics. Thank you for your help. |

Wait till the truck arrives and check the VIN plate on the truck to see if both are the same.

My '62 is from the Los Angeles plant... has the "L" code.
According to the "1" in the vin and that grille it's a '61...

That's a thing I don't understand too, the title shows 1960 too???
Maybe it's a mix. But I can find a lot of pics with that 61 grille and the emblem on the lower side of the fender. Maybe any board member knows more about that. Thank you. |

Re: A survivor in Germany, 1961 Pickup and a lot of questions.
I know some places use to use the year it was first registered and not necessarily the year the manufacture said it was. So a 1961 registered in say October 1960, the title would say 1960.
I don't know who, if any states do that now days. I know I have run across overseas (Japan), but nothing stateside.

Re: A survivor in Germany, 1961 Pickup and a lot of questions.
I purchased a 2001 F150 in 2000, registered it in 2000 and title says 2001. VIN is everything.

Re: A survivor in Germany, 1961 Pickup and a lot of questions.
Also, I was a licensed "vehicle verify-er" in California at one time. The people at the DMV do not always (mostly never) understand even the rule book they are supposed to work by. Many occasions I had to either get on the phone with a person at the DMV or go down there and show them in writing what they were doing incorrectly. Documentation on earlier vehicles is not their strong point. This truck's title is a California title which IMHO is the issue.
You can however request a correction to the title. Having your state or country local inspector verify what they see, the owner then requests a correction. I have done that from out of state. It was pretty quick too.
